Laguna Seca would be way to slow for F1 cars, wouldn't it? Road Atlanta (or a return to Watkins Glen or maybe that new Salt Lake City track) would be nice, but you're right that there's very little chance of any track in the US spending zillions of dollars to try to steal F1 from Indy.

Laguna Seca is probably a bit too Mickey Mouse and Road Atlanta could use another half-mile extension . . . perhaps at turns 6? and 7? just prior the long back straight. Both would require so much other work to meet F1's high demands that it's simply a pipe dream.

It's a shame that the technological advances combined with necessary infra-structure requirements have rendered so many circuits that presented challenge in the days of mechanical grip toothless today.

Ricardo Zonta seemed to enjoy breaking the lap record at Laguna Seca last August in the 06 Toyota F1 car:

I think there are many F1 drivers who would love an opportunity to take on this track "in anger". Braggin' rights, and all that... I think the track itself, would be ideal for F1. The location and venue however, would present some BIG logistical problems.

Laguna Seca was lengthened to 2+ miles not too long ago, in order to accomodate World-Class Grand Prix motorcycle racing, and I think would provide plenty of challenges and interesting racing.

The A1 Grand Prix open-wheel race there was interesting, even if not well-attended.

Laguna Seca could NEVER, be clear about this, NEVER hold an F1 race. You might as well give the trophy to the pole sitter and be done with it.

For F1, in the dictionary under "Mickey Mouse," it says see Laguna Seca. Most American tracks fall into that catagory for F1. The Glen might be able to do it if the owners wanted to spend millions, and I would much rather see the USGP held there than Indy, the most boring track on the schedule.

My wish, would be a brand new track next to Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Lots of money in Vegas, and there is some land next to the track if they wanted to redesign the club track currently next door, and buy up a few businesses there.

Ask your significant other where she would like to spend a long weekend: Indianapolis, or Las Vegas?
