2006 Formula 1 Discussion Thread
Well I understand why people are looking at Speed and thinking that he deserves the spot. But on raw talent alone I feel that it is marginal. He has shown almost no signs of briliance this year. (And Valintino has?) He really has been invisible the whole time. Now this is not the signs of a future champion IMHO.
And what about Alonso when he was at Minardi? Did he stand out? No.....but he was represented by Flavio!
Rather this is taking a very personable All-American star driver and dropping him into the B-Team, courtesy (I suspect) of Bernie to help to promote F1 in the USA.
All American star driver?? I'd never heard of him before the RB drivers search......
Lets face it, Speed is probably drawing next to nothing from the deal, most of his income at his level is going to be personal sponsors and a small retainer (if he is lucky) from Red Bull as part of the search for a driver scheme. Someone is paying the bills and I sincerly doubt that it is Red Bull, I would bet money that this is a semi-orchastrated move to promote F1 in the US. The major winner in that little charade is Bernie.
But he is not the next Senna, nor is he the next Alonso, Schumacher (M), nor even the next Hill or Mansell. He is probably a good solid driver that may score some points next year assuming the team has better power plants.
Sorta like everyone else except the top three teams' drivers........
he is not second-rate in an Andrea DeCrasherish kind of way, more in a Jean Alesi kind of way, the driver that never actually reaches his percieved value, but soldiers on regardless.

(sorry....can't figure out this mulitple quote thing)
Like Sara Fischer or Geff Gordon (his head will always be dizzy from all the ovals) could do better than Scott Speed in F1. They are the only other active USA driverss that have managed to squeeze their buttox into a F1 chassis!
Danica Patrick maybe could do better. But she wants to win the Indy 500.
The problem is that brainless Bernie thinks that the only thing women can do in F1 is look prety holding a pole and outside F1, make babies!

I don't think Speed deserves the opportunity at all at this point. He has had a few good qualifying efforts, and (I think) finishes races. That is all you can expect from a driver in a third-tier car with a fourth-tier engine. Hopefully he will stick around a while and grow into a good F1 driver. Maybe then he can drive for Ferrari.
Maybe he is second-rate in a Jenson Button kind of way. Very Hyped up and IMHO never has lived up to the hype... Even though he has popped his "win" Cherry
Yeah, curtesy of Reneault at Hungary F'ing up his wheel nut...........

Just in case no one has mentioned it, if someone has this is just a reminder Tonight is Juan Pablo Montoya's ARCA/Nascar Debut. It's on Speed at 8:00 est. It's the Food Lion 250 (or 500?). I hope it's as good as watching Jean Girrard and Ricky Bobby going at it in Talladega Nights

Shaaaaake and Baaaaaake!!!!!
GO JPM!!!!
I hope I don't get tired or dizzy watching him turn left for a few hundred miles. Maybe if we're lucky he'll throw a right in there somewhere.
Back on F1
Go Schumi!!!!
I do feel bad that Renualt is really not helping Alonso out with his fight for the Championship. I guess they are only concerned about the cunstructor title. I do hope Alonso does very well for Maclaren.

Nope.........won't happen. If Alonso comes into Brazil 2 points behind, all's MS has to do is finish right behind him (if FA wins) and he will win the WDC based on race wins. If Alonso finish's second and MS third........MS wins on points.
Thanks for the reminder. JP is one of my favorite drivers. Maybe if I drink enough coffee I can stay awake for a stock car race.
This was also Fred's second race on his engine, so now they both get fresh engines for the last race at Brazil. Circle the wagons and Katie bar the door kids. It's gonna get fun!
WOW ... the Suzuka championship "upset" curse was at it again.
KA- BLAMMMMMO !
Never know waht will happen but it is going to be VERY difficult for MS to pull this one out.
FA would have to score NO points and MS would have to win.
I am not an "overall" MS fan but if he won we all would be witnessing history that may never be equaled.
Next year will be interesting with Kimi filling some big shoes, Fernando trying to prove it was "him", new players now high on Red Bull and, f***ing ONE tire mfg.
I am dissapointed thet it really is more and more a "spec" class.
My buddy (Allister Gibson) is the BAR head mech. He cant say much but they just may be the ones to watch as every other team will be scrambling to fit toghether.

Huh? Isn't that what Massa is for? Just a little bump between Massa and Alonso and viola, Michael wins the championship. hehehehehe
Great race. Happy to see Alonso back on pace. Too bad about MS engine failure. At least Massa scored some points for Ferrari. Good race all around.
I read a quote that MS has conceded the championship because he doesn't want to win the championship based on a failure (on Alonso's car)

I have been blindsided by a profound sense of sadness, disappointment.
Although I have had my issues with Schumacher, I've seen a different side of the man take shape over the past two or three seasons. Despite the nonsense of Monaco, I contend that he has done far more to merit the title this season than Alonso.
My hope now is that he will indeed win his final race . . . and that Massa will come home second giving Ferrari the constructor's title.
Regarding the immature spoiled brat prone to road rage, I look forward to next year . . . when Kimi hands him his shorts every two weeks and he won't have Fisichella to push around anymore.

If watching Kimi brake several meters later than everyone else besides Schumi into the Variante Prima at Monza isn't "fun," then maybe I've missed something . . .
But I thought Schumacher was retiring?
