F-1 Discussion Thread - 2005 Season
Is that the quick dry cement that the TV announcers kept talking about?

Why did they do this to that curb
? That was stupid.
I feel a little sorry for Button now
but not too sorry as my Ferrari bias was very satisfied

Can't wait until Indy

Wonderful access again.
Got Fernando Alonso's autograph and a chance to say hello and wish him luck (speaking Spanish helps).
Here are some early activities from pit lane:

Holy tire war!
Well, a new wrinkle in the tire war. We all either love or hate the broad "one set of tires per race" rule, but it's the other, related rules that compound the situation this weekend. Here's a snip from an article on f1central.net:
"Michelin have issued set up details, involving camber angles and tyre pressures, to all of their partner teams, but wish to fly in a new specification of tyre for the race tomorrow.
The FIA is unlikely to allow this on the grounds that it would contravene no fewer than four regulations: A different actual tyre; a different specification of tyre; more than the allowed number of sets per weekend and non-nomination of tyre prior to Saturday a.m."
And another from an article on grandprix.com:The FIA is unlikely to allow this on the grounds that it would contravene no fewer than four regulations: A different actual tyre; a different specification of tyre; more than the allowed number of sets per weekend and non-nomination of tyre prior to Saturday a.m."
"To fly the tyres to Indianapolis would take around six to seven hours and realistically they cannot be in Indiana before the morning. Thus if the Michelin teams were to run the tyres on race day, they would be breaking the rules and it would be up to the stewards of the meeting to decide on whether or not to impose a penalty. But penalising teams for doing something in the interests of safety is a situation in which the FIA will not want to put itself. However, one can see a situation in which the Bridgestone teams, namely Ferrari, will try to gain an advantage to pick up World Championship points. Responding to that, voices in the paddock say that if there is a protest from Ferrari, the other teams will simply not run on Sunday and so the United States Grand Prix would feature six cars: two Ferraris, two Jordans and two Minardis. That would be disastrous from a marketing point of view and the only obvious solution to the problem is to invoke force majeure rules and allow the new tyres to be run and a full field to be seen in action. Bridgestone would still be at an advantage because of the late arrival of tyres but there may then be questions about whether it is safe for the teams to go into a race on tyres that have not been used at all. Thus it might be necessary to have a short session on Sunday morning. But if that happens it is not clear how it could be handled under the parc ferme regulations that exist."
Michelin is apparently flying in "Barcelona" spec tires for tomorrow's race. The political question remains unresolved however. One suggestion was to let all teams run new tires for the race, hmmm. Only time will tell what the eff really happens.
Good night all you Michelin shod piloti, sleep tight, muahahahaha!

It looks like the replacement tires aren't going to happen, according to Autosport. Some teams aren't happy with the idea of going straight into a race with tires they've never tested at Indy and there's also the problem of rules not permitting this. They've talked about a lesser penalty for using different tires--like starting behind all the Bridgestone guys, or a stop-and-go penalty, but some aren't happy with that. They talked about building a temporary chicane going into turn 13 (oval turn 1) but the track people don't want to do that. They've talked about having a permanent yellow flag at turn 13. And they've talked about some or all of the Michelin runners just going home.
Not very good! Let's hope they come up with some sort of reasonable solution.

I hate this tyre rule so much

Just make them load up with fuel...no refueling for something

I don't blame people for throwing stuff on the track but it might hurt drivers and track personnel who did nothing wrong

Stop throwing stuff on the track!!!!!
This is not NASCAR !!!!!!!
