Today I was lucky enough to catch a light with a supercharged GTP. From what I have read on both cars, I figured I was going to loose this race.. but to my supprise I won by a little more than a car length! Go MINI!

My other good and fair races were a 03' Tiburon GT 5 spd, easy win.
01' prelude VTECH with boltons LOST! I could not belive it, and still want a rematch.

What has everyone else raced and won or lost to?

Why, yes it was! I think there were 12 cars and only 4 were Coopers - and we finished 1-2-3

Sorry, that probably only makes sense to long time SNL fans, or to those of us in the Windy City.

Whatever you do, watch out for that new Dodge Neon SRT-4 next year. That will be one of next year's best sleepers. I just got my new Car and Driver. That car is packing 215hp, 245lb/ft of torque and weighs in around 2800-2900 lbs. MSRP is $19995 with only side air bags as the option. Check out these results. I'm inot nto Neons at all but I couldn't help but be impressed.

0-60 in 5.6 sec
0-100 in 13.8 sec
1/4 mile in 14.1@102mph
0-120 in 20.0 sec

>>Those are pretty much the exact numbers that I had going for my '01 SVT Lightning. That's sick for a Neon to be pulling off that from the factory. Dec's SportCompactCar mag did a test on it as well, and has a good write-up on the car. I'd better get modding some more. There's no way I'm standing around letting them freaking Mopars have all the fun.
But it was said that the handling bites the big one on that version. No adjustable camber plates. Zero camber. So we still have an advantage in stock form.
Bring it!!!

I know, I used to own a 96 Camaro SS and I was just thinking that damn little Neon would have given me a run for my money. One last detail I forgot to put in was it has a top speed of 153mph!!!

Do you miss your Lightning? Those are sweet - talk about sleepers! It's plays with your mind to see a big truck move that fast. I am really impressed with those new '03 Cobras - 390hp, 0-60 in 4.8, 1/4 mile in 12.85, 0-100mph in 10-11 sec! $34k for car that is right near Z06 territory. I've never been a Mustang man but I'm thinking that new '03 Cobra could easily hook me.

'eh, my MINI doesn't need to be the fastest right off the gate... 'cause EVERYONE becomes a dot when there's turns involved...

I'm just beyond break-in and I've managed to beat a Harley Fat Boy and a late model Nissan Maxima. I have been unable to get a Honda with fart pipes to race me yet, they must know what the outcome will be. Those were my favorite lunch in the Jetta Turbo I traded in on the MCS.
Comment on the Neons... Straight line performance is nice, but let one of those Neon R/Ts follow me through some corners. When he fles into the trees due to understeer, I'll be nice and u-turn to help him out.

My post about the Dodge Neon was meant as an FYI, not a jab at MCS's. I am an electrical engineer. I look at facts and numbers. $19k for a stock production car that can accelerate from 0-60mph in 5.6 and eat up the 1/4 mile in 14.1 @102mph does impress me even though I don't like Neons. I personally would get an MCS WAY before I even considered an SRT4. But the plain and simple fact is that if you do pull up to a stoplight, the SRT4 will blow your doors off accleration-wise. The thread was started as Mini S vs. Grand Prix GTP (ie, straight line accleration).

All I'm saying is be more open-minded about what other cars manufacturers are trying to do. The more competition there is, the better the availability of performance cars.

OK. First of all...kids don't try this at home. I was at a light next to a Mustang GT
and he started revving it a bit. I knew the street had a nice chicane in it about 1/4 mile up. So....it was nice to see him in the rear view. as it is I should be in Jackass: The Movie for doing it. :???:

2Minis, why does it not surprise me that you would do something sneaky and smart *** like that?!

You're smart *** humor reminds me so much of my good friend who lives in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Do they give everyone in FL Prozac or what?

Reason I asked where you live in FL in an earlier post is because my wife and I will be at South Beach and Orlando in Feb and March. Was hoping to meet the clown behind the posts! St Pete is a little too far away, though

I find this hard to beleive. I own a MCS and a Grand Prix GTP. The GTP is faster off the line. With all due respect I can only guess that the GTP driver didn't know his/her car that well or bailed out.
I hate driving the GTP now because after driving the MCS it feels like a dump truck.
