2009 Formula 1 discussion
Soon. The FIA haven't done nearly enough to manipulate the results and influence the championship the way they see fit.
Even Michael disagreed with the Vettal penalty.

Oh well, at least we know the new cars can motor around on 3 wheels quite nicely, thank you very much.
I think Race Control needed a refresher course--no safety car for too long, then couldn't get rid of it, etc.
As for Bernie, there's hope for us:

Unfortunately, that's not likely. And knowing him, I'll bet he has posthumous specifications and rule changes detailed in his will...
When Bernie retires the news article taglines will read something like...
"Formula One Supremo Bernie Ecclestone, lying on his deathbed in hospital, announced his retirement from F1 and then pulled his own plug."

... ahead of the long line of people wanting to pull it themselves.
Canada in November? Brr. Do the rain tyres work on snow?
I would LOVE to see another F1 race somewhere I could drive to (preferably Indy or Watkin's Glen, but Canada's cool), but if Abu Dhabi isn't ready, the season will just end early.

I'd rather freeze than sweat watching a race. Most of my Indy memories are accompanied by the smell of sunscreen and the sting of sweat in my eyes.
But still, I don't see Montreal and Bernie coming to terms before then. Not that I don't hope it happens!

What is this world coming to?
Pretty sure this is an April fools joke.....god I hope so.

Yeah it is; the last paragraph is the best part of the whole thing:
"It is unknown at present if the changes announced today will affect the Brawn team's expected title sponsorship with the Virgin empire, but it has been reported that a portion of the money previously tagged for F1 will now be used to purchase a fleet of small fishing vessels off the coast of Newfoundland."

Stop the presses! http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/news/2009/...an-grand-prix/ Toyota Back to 3rd and Hammy is out on this ear.
Been out of the NAM loop lately, great opening race.
I have always been a Jens fan, since day 1, I'm so happy to see him finally in a car that is competitive. For BAR and Honda to stick with him for so long tells you that he is more than just a talented driver. Hope to see more podiums for him.
Lewis was no disappointment either, even with all the dropping flies he stuck to his race, stayed clean and did well. Sad to see that my hopes of a good Mclaren were not to be......
Vettel - Yeah he did great, the penalty is crap, let them race......Kubs could have backed down and perhaps Vettel too but c'mon.....blood's hot and the end of the race is near......you gotta take chances to be WC.
All-n-all, just great, its wonderful to see such competitve racing !
I'm hanging with Lewis as my number one guy, perhaps this year will be a test of his determination. As for Jens, I'm with him too as always.
It would be nice to see Rubes do good too but there's an awful lot of young quick talent out there......

Good grief......
will it ever end ? Sounds like Mclaren screwed up but then........the words seem to be misconstrued a bit, Hamilton was told to let him by but he questioned it and was told they were checking with Charlie, he let Trulli by while they were still checking and said he did, the team said Ok but they were still checking........the interview following the race that I saw was not what I would call a "smoking gun" that Lewis lied. They (Mclaren) must know that interviews exist and that the radio is recorded......as they said "By the book this time", apparently the "book" has been changed.
It appears that they have learned a lesson with the Stewards though and that is to just take it on the chin and move on........
Hope the guys go over it on debrief so that we get a clear picture of what happened. Lewis would be the last I would blame.....its tough when the management puts you in a position where you have to be "a company man"

Regardless of if anyone lied or not, it just sucks that these races ended up being determined in a boardroom instead of the track. If these politics weren't part of the outcome, teams, drivers, etc wouldn't be encouraged to manipulate the system so much.
The whole thing is crap.
