My wife and I are planning to come up on Friday and spend the day. What time are folks heading out? My daughter has a soccer tournament on Sat/Sun otherwise we would make it a weekend.

Oh yeah, how do we get t-shirts?

Most are planning on eating lunch in Asheville, the heading over. (I think that's right.) And I am taking orders for shirts and hoodies. Let me know, and glad you can at least make it one day!

For those of you who were at MOTD in May, you might have seen the embroidered patches I sold as a fund raiser for Easter Seals. I'd be willing to do another patch sale for this Dragon event too. The patches have to be ordered at a minimum of 100 and they generally cost about $2.50 each at that quantity. So if 50 people want patches and they pay $5 each (plus shipping), it's basically break even but there will be 50 patches left over. After that, it's profit that could be donated to a charity.

Using this model I was able to donate $1000 to Easter Seals this year! So let me know if you want me to do that. The patches are beautiful and make a nice collectible from the event.

The charity I chose for the disc golf tournament, and any remaining funds, is Blood:Water Mission, an organization working to get clean blood and water into the poorest and diseased villages in Africa, a cause dear to my heart. My wife and I have friends that are highly involved in this, and see this as one of the best things we can do to help make life better for someone else much less fortunate. With that being said, I would not against doing the badges, either. If there is enough interest, I'm in and will support it.

I didn't mean that the patches would be for Easter Seals again. I'm planning to do that in May for MOTD. Theses patches could be for the same charity as the golf.

It's free to get a patch proof so I can just get one made and post it and then we'll see if there is enough interest.

Finally able to get back on NAM... Gots my internet back up and running... (in process of moving into new house)

1. I have never played disc golf, there for have no discs. I would love to participate and learn this interesting sport. Count me in on that. I would love to get in on this action. I'm all about new things...

2. I love the idea of patches. I'll buy two of them...

3. Great post on brew swap... also .. those interested in the DDM... I can lend in a hand in installation as I have one installed by my own two hands. Pretty easy to do and is a mod that I highly recommend.

1. There will be extra discs for those who need them, and would love to introduce you to this great sport! It's alot of fun, and free to play in your neck of the woods anytime you want! There are several great courses where you live!
2. Cool about the patches, I hope there's enough interest to do it!
3. I don't know what DDM is, like an idiot. So, I gues it will be cool. I know Dan Zipkin's going to do a cool tech workshop! And I hope someone can come together and run the Brew Swap. I know there's plenty of interest!

I'm in for a patch, I ordered one of the last ones and donated it to somebody when I didn't actually make the MOTD. Very high quality.

As for the DDM CAI, I put up a pic of the one in ATVGUY's car. Very high quality stuff. The bling guys should definitely check it out!

Here's another shot of one.

Well, that's about ten patches already so I'll get working on this. Only 40 to go for the break even point!

These events could be shut down just because of a few. The death toll has climed drastically in the past couple of years. The Dragon is a public hiway and should be treated as such. Rules to remember, never cross the double yellow line. DONOT Tailgate or try to race to keep up with another Mini. If someone comes up behind you driving a little more spirited, pull over first chance and let them go. The Speedlimit is 35 MPH. So if you get clocked and pulled its no ones fault but your own. I have been to alot of the events and it keeps getting people that think its a race track. There are also alot of other roads in the area just as good as the Dragon. Drive with some sense and remember don't matter how fast your car is, someone else has a faster one. This weekend will be full of leaf watchers who have just a much right to the hiway as you do!! Drive Safely

Yep - Luke speaks the truth.

The other things I'd add - always EXPECT a bike or car or big rig to be coming toward you, in your lane, when you round a blind curve. Cause it happens. And if you aren't expecting it, you WILL have problems... Also, always be alert to what's happening WELL up the road - as far ahead as you can see, including across the switchbacks, etc. This is how you'll spot the slow drivers (and possibly BICYCLISTS!) before you come up on them from behind at high speed around that blind corner I was talking about earlier. Doing this is indeed more challenging than just watching the 50' ahead of your car - but it's the safest way to drive any of those twisty roads... You can usually (but not always) see trouble developing if you are looking up the road..

Personally, I prefer to do my Dragon runs during the "off" hours - early in the morning, or in the evening (or night with a group), or on weekdays - because it can get so hairly during "prime time"... only takes a few idiots to take away all the fun - during "prime time" (late AM to late afternoon on the weekends) I prefer to stick to other roads or find something else in the area to do - but that's just me.

Agreed on all points from Luke and Blimey. The bottom line is, be careful, and cross your t's, dot your i's, and pay attention to the road. Because we are going to be there all weekend, have lots of time to go in the off-times and night, as well as trying new roads in the area. Well, the roads aren't new, but we may not have all ridden them. We all want to come back alive, and enjoy the road as it is!

Fall Dragon

Count me in. My husband's the area coordinator in Charlotte for the BMWCCA and a few of the members would probably like to go. Would it be ok to add some BMWs to the mix? I assume we would need to get our own block of rooms. Any suggestions?

The BMWCCA welcomed several of us in our MINIs up at VIR recently, so it's great we can reciprocate! It's all about having fun in our cars...I think most of us are staying at Fontana, book in there, if you can.

I agree, I'll be doing some runs up and back early. I get up early anyway. Plus got to be ready for the disc golf matches...
