My dealer said that Mini only made 1,600 JCWs in 2009. Does anyone know if that is true?

We're not even half way through 2009 - I'm sure they'll make more!

Actually there are only a few more months for MY2009 and the switchover to MY2010.

Is that globally of just US [or US+CAN]?

Only 500 Mercedes Benz C43s that I have one of were brought into the US in 1998. I think less than the JCW count were made globally. Still doesn't make the car very valuable in the 2nd'ary market today. And that car wears the three pointed star. As a MB rep once said to me at an auto show in the early 2000's, "hold it long enough, and you might get back what you paid for it". lol.

So as glad as I am to hear the news, just saying, don't get your hopes up 'too' much as to the JCW being rare paying very many dividends. :D

I guess it would depend on what you mean by "a few more months", but I thought that MINI production for any particular model year continued at least through October or November. It definitely doesn't switch over in August like many manufacturers.

Production for BMW and MINI switches over in August. New year models are typically delivered starting early October. 2009 MCS production started 3rd week of August 2008.

The 2009 JCW production started in June 2008, but that was a special case (introduction of a whole new model). The first 09 JCWs were delivered to the US mid July 2008.

And how many of those are AB? Only a few months worth. I still haven't seen another factory JCW on the street, which is pretty cool.

Considering how poor car sales are going, I wonder if 2010 will have a similarly small production run.

When I was ordering my MY09 R57, the dealer gave me a copy of a dealer bulletin (#PB-12-17-08). On the top, it had the following.

2009 Mini Cooper / Mini Cooper S Convertible SOP: 12/2008 and EOP: 08/2009.

So I assume that the first MY09 R57s had a Start of Production (SOP) of December 2008, and the MY09s will have a End of Production (EOP) in August 2009.

So, maybe we'll see a MY10 R57 arriving in September or even October 2009 as stated in one of the above posts.
