My new Midnight Black JCW

I've had my JCW since last wednesday, so I guess it's about time to start my own thread. Here are a few pics, more in my gallery, what do ya think?

Yeah, I'm drooling. MINI of Nashville just got a midnight black MCS in the other day. It looks sooooooo good! So now it's time to murder it out, so that I can live vicariously.

Thanks! And Midnight Black is awesome, you can barely see the metallic in it, so it almost looks like Jet Black, almost. (Still wish I could have gotten Jet Black) And it is quite a pain to keep clean, I've had it for 6 days, and have already washed it twice.

Very Nice! Get used to cleaning it! I have an Astro Black, and it has to be washed every time I go through a tiny puddle.

Looks great. I was going to do all midnight black as you. But...

My midnight black JCW won't even be built until early next month (but delivery is only a week or less!). And I have yet to see that color live. Mine will have a white roof w/o sunroof and I plan to do a 35% tint on all side windows and the rear glass. We can't order them with the JCW aero package, but can order it through the dealer (pre-painted). I'll do that and get JCW Recaros. Hope it's all worth it. It's more than I was planning to spend. But, what the hell...

I, too, would have gotten jet black it available. I already have 1 metallic black car...

Thanks everyone!!

masterd78 - Yea I've already cleaned it 4 times, and I've only had it for a week and a half.

Stevie B - I'm quite jealous, I wish we could get the Recaros. I'll probably be getting mine tinted very soon. And yea mine was more than I was planning to spend too, but it is completely worth it. Yesterday, I got past the 400 miles that my MA recommended I take it easy for. And it is quick!!!

Very nice

Get some "ZAINO" and it will actually look blacker and be protected from the sun. The best protection out there for a black or red painted car.

how are you going to black the chrome? I just ordered a Chili Red JCW and would like to black the chrome girll, it is just not for me. I got the black top to go with, I just don't think the shinny silver color fits in with all the red and black SO whatever ideas you've got, I am game. thanks!

I was considering using Zaino but I will probably wait until the weather gets a little better before I do that.

Thanks, yea I love the piano black too!

There are several threads about blacking out the chrome, but I plan on using the vinyl from outmotoring.com for the beltline, then plasti-dip for the headlight rings, taillight rings, and gas cap. Then get the molded handle covers from aestheticreations.net. The chrome around the grill was already black on mine because of the JCW aerokit, but im pretty sure you can buy just the grill surrounds somewhere.

I am looking primarily at the grill, but I had not even thought about the rest of the chrome...except the headlight bezel. I didn't want to attempt that for fear of snapping it. I tried the zaino.com site, it did not work. Said that the site was up to be rented out. What gives?

I am going to look you up when I get back across the pond this summer and see if you've blacked yours yet. I'll take any help/tips/advice I can! Thanks!

New address for the Zaino store is:

I guess they have a new address for some reason. It is:
www.zainostore.com
I would guess someone hijacked their old address or something.
It is a great product. I had a 1998 Corvette that all I ever used on it was Zaino and it never faded at all. This Florida sun will fade red or black pretty quick if not UV protected. It was also great for making it easy to remove the love-bugs. (anyone familiar with FLORIDA knows what a love-bug is and what it will do to your paint)
I now use it on my red JCW. "Blact top/red body"

I lived in Tampa and got the lovebug baptism one day. I wondered why cars had these goofy screens in front of their grilles until then. Yikes! They are thick in the air and dammed up my front/radiator ASAP. I was driving a POS then so I just got a screen shield for it. Not a good thing at all, twice a year as I remember. Don't miss that.

You don't want to put anything on the paint until it's cured. It needs to breathe. You can get an orange peel affect if you "protect it" too early.

Looks more like Cosmos Black than Jet Black.

That is such a sweet ride. The interior looks so nice with the Navi.

Enjoy!!!

I'm also going to add the factory splitter from the Challenge race car. It's just a different shaped lower front plastic piece...so it should be direct bolt on. I can only imagine it'll produce some needed front end downforce and aid stability at high speeds. And if I can also get the double white stripe kit for the Challenge race car, I'll do that too. That way the stripes go down across the front and rear bumpers too.

After that I'm pretty much done. However, I may decide to do the Helix FMIC and tune in the future if I think it's necessary. Cosmetically, I'm also contemplating the big white Challenge race car rear wing. At that point, my JCS will be truly unique...especially in the States.

Check out the gallery (especially the profile to see the depth of the front splitter, and the close up of the rear wing)
