JCW stuck at the Port!!!

I ordered my JCW as soon as it was possible to place an order, and I've therefore been on schedule for the 14th July launch date since the beginning. My car was built on time and arrived at the distribution center 2 weeks ago.

It's still there!

And my dealer, who is trying very hard to be helpful, can't get them to give any information on A) why it's still there, or B) when it might show up.

Does anyone have any experience/advice/thoughts on this matter or how I should now proceed?

thanks in advance...

Did you pick up any JCW bits like the aero kit, suspension, etc, etc? If so that is most likely the source of the delay since all of that stuff is taken care of at the VDC.

Thanks for the response.

I should have clarified: my car has no JCW bits at all (it's pretty much a bone stock JCW).

I've also read all the 'stuck at port' and 'info on VDC' threads, so I realise that since it's not having JCW stuff added, the most likely scenario is that it sustained some sort of damage (minor or major) during shipping...

That's what immediately went through my mind. I remember someone posting that their car sustained minor damage and that it was delayed to repair it. What really stuck out was that they would not disclose what was damaged and to what extent..

Mine was stuck at the VDC. My MA was able to confirm I recieved slight bumper damage, so little that the VDC didn't catch it, but the shipper did and wouldn't carry it. The bumper was replaced at the VDC. It happens. When it arrived at the dealer, given what the dealer found out and my thorough inspection, I confirmed it was a minor cosmetic problem solved by replacing the part, and I accepted the car. Frustrating, but it happens.

Your MA should be able to find out.

I am in the same situation (see sig). I've been attempting to escalate this for a week... but with little to show for it. The manager let me know today the car was released to transport yesterday.

Good luck to you.

Really feel for you lads still to get your cars, I'd be pulling my hair out by now. I was bad enough and I've had it since last Thursday.

Waiting sucks. I was supposed to have my car the end of last week, but it missed the boat and I won't have it until July 31st "or so". That wouldn't be so bad but I'm going out of town on August 1st and won't be back until the 9th...

If you have the time, please post back here about your experience once the car arrives. My MA is still trying to get more information on mine, but so far has none at all. I'd be very interested if they disclose, or you detect, any damage on your car.

If it's just something tiny - like what glangford describes - then I won't mind. But if there's been anything structural done, or if paintwork has been done, then I'm going to be hesitant to accept the car. We all know that the JCW is a special car, and if I sell it down the road with paintwork done to it, I WILL take a big hit on it.

The whole thing is exacerbated for me because I NEED a car right now. So I'm having to consider buying something else, but I really don't want something else!

Talked to Ma ( thaddues at niello ) this morning.
Rep told him that mini had port do all dealer cars, clubman and hatch first, then customers cars.
NO DAMAGE or problems and installing aero kit at this time.
I had the #two car and # one has not went out.
I told them I was very unhappy and mini was not good to not get cars out that were paid for.
What better than happy car owners!
More info to come.

My car was "stuck" at the VDC (the one on the west coast) for a few weeks but arrived at the dealer this morning. So for those whos cars were chill'n in Cali they are being sent out.

I just got a phone message saying that my car will be ready for pick-up on Saturday. What I have yet to receive is a full explanation for the delay. After this long, my assumption - until proven otherwise - is that the car was damaged. I hope I'm wrong and that they can document and explain the delay for me.

For those of you who had delays, like me, was there ever an explanation? The port never really explained the delay to my dealership, but both my MA and the manager were great - and they assured me that any damage *must* be disclosed by the port (bmw lost a big lawsuit in the past).

At any rate, I couldn't turn down the JCW after I drove it. Wow.

Ma said that port rep told him that mini had port do all dealer cars ( two each ), first, then customers cars. So if like me, you had any port work-JCW Aero Kit- then are cars went out last, after customer no work cars.
I had more than one talk with Ma about this, and that i was very worried about damage, he said that they would disclose any damage, But that port rep repeatably told him that it was the above, not damage that held up the car.
I pick up car at one today!!!!!!
Hope this helps.

For those wondering, the VDC MUST report any damage done to the car that takes longer than 5 minutes to fix. If they knock off your rear view and can get it glued back in in less than 5 minutes, they don't have to report it. Also, there is something special for anything that is less than 1% of the total value of the car in repair work. I think that it gets reported as being repair work/damage but not explicitly what it was...while anything more than this gets reported to you in detail...

This information is found in another thread on this forum somewhere, unfortunately I don't remember where.

No disrespect Lightbringer but whoever told you "if it can be fixed in less than 5 minutes...." is wrong. That's almost the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard....

I can't remember the exact number but I believe it's like 3%, anything more than that and they have to disclose it. It may even vary from state to state.

I know we do several hundred thousand dollars of repairs for the hendrick automotive group for brand new cars. Though they follow the 3% rule, (or whatever that exact number is) I know for a fact that if the panel painted is plastic (ie. bumpers) they don't disclose it. Their rule is if it's metal, they disclose it. That's not a law, that's their business practice. (A good one at that)

HTH's,

Mark

Hey man, just telling you like I heard. If you think about it though, it makes PERFECT sense....why spend half an hour and likely close to $100 or more preparing paperwork (considering overhead, future travel, filing, etc) on say, replacing a piece of weatherstripping that got caught on someones shoe as they came out of the vehicle, when it can be tossed out (if the stripping is damaged), and replaced in a matter of seconds?

Sounds economical to me...not ridiculous

Well, like I said, no disrespect meant at all to you. The reason it doesn't make sense is because it's too ambiguous. Can you imagine the litigations that would go on because someone decided it was a "5 minute" job when in reality it took 15 minutes? It would be ludicrist to think how the VDC would fudge estimated time. Who's to justify exactly how much time it takes to do a repair? What if it wasn't something in a labor guide such as a repair as opposed to a replacement part?

That is why they use the 3% rule. It encompasses anything up to 3%. If a bumper cover was torn and it cost 1000 to replace and refinish, they'd be safe.

Anyway, like I said, I'm sure someone on here will tell us the correct percentage but I do know it's a percentage or number, not a guesstimated time on repalr/replacement.

Mark
