I do not know which dealer he is speaking of..But I just spoke to Shep, the GM of Alexander Mini,They just got a factory roll out JCW that showed up without him even knowing.Chilli Red/Black with the JCW areo kit and some other JCW goodies that the factory thru on there..It is not sold YET,since he didn't even know he was getting it..He called me to see if I wanted it,but it's a little to soon to upgrade...great oppurtunity for someone who really wants the car now....His number is 800-800-nick...
Yeah, I noticed. If I lived in California, I'd buy it somewhere else where there was no mark up, just on principle. I remember the early days when markups on MINIs were more common, and the mad scramble that resulted in people looking for dealers who didn't...
It seems every dealer received two "bonus" cars for their allocation - one Coupe and one Clubman. They are all equipped with heated seats, HiFi, Bluetooth, MF Steering Wheel and cloth seats, added JCW bits, Aero Kit, Steering Wheel and JCW Strut Tower Bar.
Cost is about 35,000. From what I was told at MINI of Annapolis - MINI USA would prefer the dealers not sell the cars and use them as true demos - however it appears that the some dealers are cutting off their noses to feed their face.

of course they are. they have no demo cars to speak of to begin with, why keep one around when anything else not nailed to the asphalt is being sold? sales are once again outpacing production
Stage 2 refers to a Factory JCW car, which is just now hitting the market.
Stage 1 is a MCS with the JCW upgrades kit, which has been available for some time.
The Stage 1/2 nomenclature was used before we knew what the Stage 2 technology would be called. Now that we're calling it the "Factory JCW" the Stage 1/2 names are somewhat obsolete.

I got the first customer allocation for a Factory JCW at Mini of Mountain View and they marked it up $1,500.
he said dealers were losers for the mark up. I edited that statement to say it's a business taking a profit.
profit != evil. Don't like the asking price? Don't buy. If it wasn't what the market would bear, the seller will adjust accordingly. Every dealer and every brand has done this over the years. I remember being told I had to pay $3k over MSRP for a '98 Accord Coupe when it came out in fall of '97.
Umm, no. I waited six months and found a dealer that would sell it to me at $2k under MSRP.
