F57 Forward skid plate Cover
Recently purchased a new to me, 2024 Mini Cooper S Convertible from Carvana. After getting it home I noticed an oil leak, and since the car only had 8000 miles on it, and still under manufacturer's warranty, Carvana's insurance said take it to the dealer, which I did. They discovered that, evidently, when it was serviced by Carvana they didn't install the oil cover drain plug correctly and also crushed the filter. Anyway, while fixing this they also notified me that the Forward Skid plate cover was missing. The skid plate itself was there, just the, what they call, the 'Cover, stiffening plate front' was missing.
So, my question is, is this cover absolutely necessary? Or, is more of a aesthetic thing for folks that want to look under the car. I guess it's either plastic or a stiff cardboard type of material and doesn't seem to do much, except hide the underneath of the engine. Anyway, TIA for any advice on this.

The skid plate or under engine cover actually helps with airflow through the engine bay and under the car. It can help reduce drag and aerodynamics, and help with the performance of the cooling system. I would not recommend going long term with it missing. Good on you to get it replaced.
