So I went to pop the plastic square that covers my tiny license plate lights off because I wanted to replace them with LEDs. I just stuck a screw drive on the side and wiggled til they came off, and I popped the plastic off. What can I do? How do I re-mount them? Should I use gorilla glue or something like that.
...What usually happens is the spring clip mount snaps when people try taking these off.
I went to change my bulbs today and both lens’s came out easily but one did break. The other one didn’t break but I can’t seem to get it back snapped in correctly and I am wondering if I have the orientation correctly.
Looking at it the clip goes to the right? I should have looked more closely when I took them out. If someone can snap a picture of the lens installed that will help too as you can tell from the diffusers which way it goes back in.
The good news is that the bulbs were absolutely corrosion free and Artoo is a 2003.
As for the broken one, I am going to try to repair it.
When i install them on Gen 1 or gen 2 , I install the spring side first, pull back to the spring side, then push up and clip the other side in. Should slide right in.
Usually is the plastic that holds the spring that brakes and they brake because when taking them out one would push them too hard and the plastic snaps even if you put them back they could still fall off, I would recommend getting new ones they are so cheap that it's worth getting an extra pair.
Going back on you should be careful not to push them too hard back in just a bit of pressure should do it looking from the back of the car spring first will be to your left and then push the lens in.
I updated the list above with Gen 1 R50/R52/R53 and Gen 2 R56 R57 R58 R59 options for the grip handle.
Its that lens plastic near that spring that snaps like minibx and myself said before. Not the housing. But if you damaged the grip housing its linked above. You will need the R56 version. At the same time you could finish change your set up if its damaged.
