Just noticed it this morning, hard to see in photo but the black middle part of the bumper is turning white. Was fine 2 days ago. Looks terrible, called and it can be fixed under warranty and was told they have tried to buff it out with no luck on other cars. Pretty sure the new will do it again then I'll be back again.

Having trouble seeing what you're talking about. Is it on the bottom of the middle part section? From what I found, it looks like a few people on NAM have had the paint flake off on their bumpers. Didn't see much about your complaint though. Here is one on NAM about the bumper paint flaking off and here is another. One had luck where the dealership took care of it. I'm pretty surprised, with how new your car is, the dealership wont do anything about it since it seems there have been multiple complaints like yours.

It's actually the Black plastic bumper that runs across the front of the car. I'll try and get a better picture on my lunch break. Looks bad. The dealer said they will take car of it for me just wanted everyone to know about it.

Sorry, I miss read what you said about the warranty. My apologies. Glad the dealer is going to take care of it!

Ya, that's what I thought I was looking at. Very strange that the paint is doing that. I've seen lots on the paint flaking off from the F56, but not something like this. I'm sure this will be helpful to someone else in the future so thanks for posting! Hopefully it fixes the issue and it doesn't happen again.

Mine's doing it too but it's much worse than yours. I just haven't had a chance to go to the dealer yet.

Since the part looks like it snaps in...it might be easy to replace...
I'm wondering if the part in question rubbed on the car next to it in shipping...
So the clear coat on it is pretty much gone...so when they buff it, it looks good for a bit...but no clear left...so the paint the clear protects begins to look hazey...
Just a guess...
Since you live so far away..maybe the dealer can order you a part...save you a trip...rather than going in..getting itvlooked at, ordering it...then going back to get it swapped...

It looks like the paint is separating or reacting with the plastic underneath the clearcoat. It creates this milky, runny-looking effect. If I had my car today, I'd snap a picture.

For what it's worth, the replacement part is not much, about $50 or so. I ended up buying another one after I told the dealer 4x not to drill the plate bracket to that piece before picking up the car when I got it, you think they listened? They offered to replace it the next time I bring it in, but I don't want to wait until the next time I bring the car in for service, and they aren't so local, either. I'll replace it together with the JCW grille that I'm installing in place of the "S" grille.

I wonder how easy that black section is to remove?

I've often thought that the whole black strip is a little boring looking. A ripe spot for a bit of customization but I don't think I've ever seen anyone paint it or apply decals etc. Think I might do something to mine...

Alright friends. I had a chance to take some pictures of my plate-filler piece. As you can see, the black has "faded" and there are areas where it looks like the color has separated and run. The piece is smooth; there's no change in texture. It looks like it happened under the clearcoat.

The car is garage kept except during the day when I'm at work.

I was just telling my husband that my front bumper has these spots on it ...not really any color to them. It looks like a car that has been sitting out in the sun for years and has faded. My car is garage kept... not really sure what to do about this. Maybe I will have to buy a new one. I'll see if I have a pic of it to share.

Ugh I hope this doesn't happen with my '16 JCW. And what sucks is that I have a clear bra on it so it's even more work for MINI having to replace that part.

For anyone else experiencing this issue and trying to get the dealer to cover it, I hope your experience is better than mine. MINI of Chicago said the part had been resprayed and told me to go back to the dealer I purchased it from. When I called the dealer, they said they never resprayed it and warranty should cover it. I gave MINI of Chicago that information and they still refuse to do anything. So now I have to drive over an hour away to get this issue addressed. Ridiculous.

To add insult to injury, they also washed my car despite the fact I told them numerous times not to, they didn't reset my service indicator properly and they got my Satellite Gray seats dirty. Nice job guys

Matt

Hey Nuke. Did you contact Mini USA? They can tell the dealer to replace it. I just had my whole front end replaced (hood, bumper, grills, etc.) after a Tahoe backed into me so hopefully the newer part won't do the same.

Yeah, I sent them an email through my account on the MINI USA site. We'll see what happens.

Yep, that's what most people were saying, once replaced it did not chip or oxidize. Like is was a production part issue. Parts for the US stock are usually second run or sometimes an alternate supplier.
