on a ride yesterday, threw serious codes. FF12B3 is cat.less downpipe I think, won't erase anymore.11CF30 is Brake Fluid Blue Line that won't go away on Reset ?, 11801 ?, 21A023 ?, 1F052E ?, 2B901 / 213901 ? this is some heavy stuff.

the zeroes could be Os (ohs) & the ones could be Is (eyes)

 

O and I are not used. So not to confuse with 0 and 1.

after putting my S on Mini's $85 computer, it turns out almost every code was related to a bad aft. cat. O2 sensor. I have a cat.less downpipe I now know.

 

FF12B3 - cat.less downpipe. 12B304 - O2 sensor related, 11CF30 - O2 sensor related (fuel mixture code) 11801 - O2 sensor related (lean mixture) Mini has an excuse to charge you $85 to test your ride on their computer to get their own #s, charge you $568 for an O2 sensor + install. I'll just get it over with. Ima old man.

 

Heres the $568 question.

Is the O2 sensor bad? Or is the O2 sensor reading incorrectly due to not having a cat.
Some catless downpipes are not engineered to have the sensor out of the exhaust flow, causing bad readings.

wanted to see a few things under car, so while it was up I got to garage & see. the mukanik handed me the fried O2 sensor, said it was fried & CEL went out. didn't think to look for bung-hole, but I did think about that when I looked at cat.less downpipe & 3" SS Magnaflow exhaust & a couple other things that I wanted to see like new under motor cover & Bow-Lip buttoned up proper. when you buy a used car, you buy somebody's screw-ups. It's Now roll-off-the-assembly-line-perfect. I was thinking that $560 was big bucks for lambda sensor but didn't know all the ins & outs, just a babe in the woods ! now that I know, when I get oil changed later this month I'll have another look @ bung-hole to see location. I'm learning. I am curious about moving bung-hole, prolly not possible, it did start the cognitive wheels spinning.AND if I ever throw codes like that again, I'll take an O2 Sensor with me.

 

Did you have the dealer replace the O2 sensor? Im surprised they didn't refuse, du to the car having the cat removed.

Im surprised he didn't recommend a spark plug anti fouler to stick in you bung hole. Keeps the O2 sensor out of the exhaust path.
Or plug the O2 hole with a pipe plug and tie off the new o2 sensor into fresh air. Cause with no cat, your O2 sensor
is basically useless.

After all you dont have smog checks in FL

 

they have no problem doing & charging for any work. they'll install my ceramic brake pads, for a price. I was wondering how to by-pass the O2 sensor in case it happens again proving the cat.less downpipe dilemna. (maybe that's why the car was sold ?) if it does I'll order a cheap one & get a pipe plug at hardware store & zip-tie it somewhere. next month when I change the earl, I'll look for bung hole & place to hang new one. So, We Shall See ! yeh, Fl. doesn't have those wretched inspections anymore. if it does happen again the $725 they charged me will be cut in 1/2, for the last time ! I may be crazy, but I ain't stupid. Question, with all work , bypassed & plugged & hung out of the way, done will I have to go into Bimmerlink & clear codes or will it happen autumatically ? will the CEL go out ? I'd think so.

 

With the downstream O2 sensor in fresh air, the DME will think the car is running clean, and will make no AFR adjustments.
Thats the down and dirty way.

The clean way is to install a spark plug anti fouler in the downpipe, to more the O2 sensor out of the exhaust path.

 

I'm Jusrt A Dirty White-Boy ! the CEL went out & it appears to be fine, IF those cat.less downpipe numbers EVER throw another code, next time I'll have the answer.THEN I'll order the cheapest O2 sensor I can find, disconnect the bad one & leave it in the bung-hole. cut the wire lead off as flush as I can. Re-connect the brand-new one & zip-tie it up somewhere to be decided next month when I get my oil changed, just got to memorize elec. plug for new O2 sensor on car. BAM ! $106 + cost of lifting it for 15 min. I"M DONE ! the only thing I'm curious about right now is where the bung-hole is located, in the Downpipe or farther south ? ALSO can you decipher 213901 ? this code is wiggin' me out.
