Will anyone code out a CEL from a DP?

I installed the Akrapovic DP and it along with a 2nd cat delete make my R56N sound amazing and give lottsa power.

The DP has given me a CEL from the first day it was installed. I've tried using spacers on the O2 sensors but that didn't work. I'm about to get a NM tune but they said they can't code out the CEL.

So is there anyone around who CAN code out this CEL on my 2011 R56N?

I'd love to get it gone without buying a $300 OBDII plug-in that only turns off the light.

Either get the mod Way Motor Works sells or you need to have downpipe related codes deleted from an ECU tune.

Right, I'd like to get rid of it without the $300 OBDII plug-in that Way sells.

NM, who I'm getting the tune from, doesn't/won't code out the CEL.

I'm trying to find out if there is someone who can code out the CEL on the N18 engine since I haven't heard of anyone doing it yet.

That's because NM is based in the liberal socialist state of California and is worried about the implications with CARB.

You need to get a tune anyway to maximize the gains of the downpipe. You have to pay to play. Evolve Automotive will get rid of downpipe cat related codes. It is an option when choosing the tune you want with them.

NM said that they couldn't remove it because BMW had hidden it in the recent revision. They also admitted that even if they could find it, they wouldn't code it out because of possible fines.

You might check with RennTech . . . .

Hit up Renn-Spec.

http://www.renn-spec.com/

They're in La Puente and they have a BMW GT2 code reader that dealerships and their techs use. They can read and clear your codes. I think it's dumb that NM won't clear your codes but I guess they dont want to be liable for any damages that may or may not ever occur.

Check out Renn-Spec though. They won't be that close for you but when you need to clear a code the least you wanna think about are stupid codes. They cleared my codes when I had a tune in my ride when I had a 335i and I needed to clear them before I brought in the vehicle for a new HPFP so look into them.

"Clear" doesn't sound like it gets rid of permanently. I'll check into them and see if they can do anything about it.

It'll probably end up being cheaper and much easier to just buy the Akrapovic thing after I pay someone to code the CEL out and ship it out and be without a car for a few days.

Did I mention that I hate CARB and all the people who make CA such a liberal place?

Well they have a GT2 I would be surprised if they weren't able to not just clear.

curious - do you plan on driving out to NM to get your tune? or are you shipping your ecu to them? i'm down in irvine and am considering their tune in the not to distant future.

I'm going to drive up to them and get the tune done in an afternoon. Much better than having the car be down for almost a week while it's getting the tune done because of shipping.

I spoke with them on the phone and they said this would be more than fine. Just call a day ahead to be sure they have an hour or so to dedicate to you so you're not waiting around all day.

Another reason I have to go with them is so I can get their free re-tune if the dealer wipes it out or a flash back to factory if I need. I could go with another company for the tune but the connivence of NM being so to me close puts them far above any other company IMO.

sounds like a good plan. i'd drive up from irvine too, if/when i decide to go with their tune. doesn't seem like us socal folks have a better option right now. would love to hear feedback as more people start going with NM's tune. and i'm with you regarding the DP throwing the code - would love to figure out a way to get that coded out.

yeah, i really should contact him. i've been a bit hesitant b/c he hasn't been active on this forum or the one on his own webpage. i should go have a conversation with him one of these days - i don't think he's more than 5-10 mins away from me.

ha, just noticed that you live in mt. laurel. i used to live in apts close to ramblewood, and worked off fellowship.
so it sounds like you're a big proponent of the jan tune. the guy who took me out for a test drive at the dealership i got my car from knows jan. he used to race in the ford focus cup or something - really fun guy. i'll definitely drop jan a line. i have about 26k on the clock. can prob get past my warranty period (as if it's something i'm trying to achieve) in maybe another 8 months. we'll prob go from there. thanks for your input!

i lived on holly cove. the front door to my apt faced the fountains that are adjacent to south church st. scotto's pizza in that plaza at the intersection is one of my all-time favorites for a slice. and then you can walk across the street for a mango gelati at rita's. this was almost 10 years ago that lived there, ha!

AP is another option. RMW is a great option as well. I live within an hour of RMW as well. I decided to go with the AP while my car is under factory warranty. Alta has quick customer service and it takes 1 minute to set my ECU back to stock. My MCS is bone stock, so it didn't really make sense to get a custom tune from RMW. Once I get a FMIC and an Exhaust then I might look into a custom dyno tune from RMW. Until then the AP works great, is easy to use and gave me some good easy HP!

unfortunately, AP is not an option for the 2011+ MCS with N18 engines. otherwise, this would have been a foregone conclusion. =/ i need to get a ride in an MCS with an AP one of these days, just to see what i'm missing out on. then again, it may be a bad idea too...haha!
i currently have a larger fmic, and would consider getting a dp and maybe an exhaust for the tune, but i'm not in a huge rush to do so.

Just deal with the celif you can. If not find someone who does inspections and overlooks the cel. We have a few people over here that do that lol.

My mistake. I didn't even check to see what year your MINI was.

That's why I decided to buy a 2010 with low miles. Took quite awhile to find one, especially in black with all the options I wanted. Loved the 2011 + but knew I would want more power out of it. Doesn't look like any companies are going to produce anything great to tune them. Good luck.

I'll ask my friend whose having a huge BMW meet tomorrow. He's the owner of the shop and see if he can code out the CEL to act like the AP and not just delete as I had mentioned Rennspec before.
