Drivetrain Will anyone code out a CEL from a DP?
I've been ignoring the CEL since around February but I'd prefer to have it off because it looks better with it off. But mostly because if I get a real CEL, there's no way for me to know it's there. It's not like the light can get brighter or blink or something.
I asked him tonight and he believes it can be done. I'm going to uninstall my AP tune and drive in with my CEL so he can see if it can be coded out. But he's very confident it can be done as long has he has the proper vehicle profile.
Remember you guys have a '10 and a '11, two different softwares. Not sure if the coding for a 10 is the same so you might still have that cel for a while. But I thought the AP would remove the code on the pre 11 cars.
AP will but that's why I said I would remove the AP so they can test if they can remove it entirely with their AutoLogic diagnostic tool.
Essentially you can point on the differences between a '10 and an '11, but all I'm trying to do is help some members out by trying to get it cleared, if no one wants me to try, I will gladly not. Just trying to help you guys find a solution for the NM tuned guys/gals.

Ra2fanatic is a great example of what folks in the MINI community should be. Helping people out for no gain of they're own. Good on you man! I have an AP do this won't benefit me but I'm glad to see guys stepping in to answer questions when they can!
I always looked to NAM for my answers and if I couldn't find it, I always asked. NAM has been a huge guide for me compared to a lot of the other MINI community, so just trying to be help out others even if it's not for my own benefit.

Finally uninstalled the AP this morning and it took a drive all the way to Irvine and back for the CEL to appear. So I'm going to go to my friend's shop tomorrow morning and get back to you guys on the subject.
The AP tells the ECU to pretty much negate the CEL because of the downpipe. Now that it is back up, I can go in to my friends shop and see what they can do. It would have been pointless to have uninstalled my tune w/o the CEL activated.
+1 He has answered allot of my NOOB questions as well. Love this forum.
saw that you drove down to irvine. curious as to where in socal you are. i'm in irvine myself, live right by john wayne and work at park plaza off the jamboree exit. do the socal mini folks on this forum ever get together?

I'm down to meet up with peeps if anyone is interested. I tried to get people to come out to LTMW in El Monte. He's a close friend who hosted an "End of Summer" meet. Anyone I send his way normally are blown away by their service and that's where I took my car today...
I'm in El Monte. My sister lives in Irvine @ The Village near the Spectrum. I'm always down to meet, but the MINI community is different than the BMW crowds I'm with. With MINI's, seems you need to be in a club to get people together...

if you're ever down this way again and have time, drop me a line. would love to meet up and take a ride in your car to see how big a difference a tune makes on the MCS.
where do i find the "type destination code" of my mini?
I have good news and bad news. The good news is, it can be done. The bad news is...just not on my car...
My car was not listed in their AutoLogic OBDII coding unit so talking to Rene at the shop he said that, for any SoCal peeps, you can bring in your ride and get it checked, if you fit either MF1 or 2, then they can clear it.
Unfortunately at this time, MF3 vehicles cannot be removed at this time. He did show me that in the AutoLogic, that had MF3 been in the system, there was a screen that shows the code could be deactivated.
Again, you guys in SoCal are welcome to go into the shop and have your vehicle read, they won't charge you for getting anything read, so long as you aren't listed as MF3 as my '10 MCS, then you can definitely get it deactivated and no CEL would emerge because of your DP.
A consolation would be you can get any other coding done. Remove door dinging sounds, key fob activated features and other codes can be activated and deactivated.
I had them activate the feature where if you hold down the unlock button on your fob, your windows will roll down and when you lock and hold lock, it'll roll your windows back up.
So again, they can get it done, give it a go for anyone local, doesn't hurt to try.

nice! i have a coworker that lives at the villages - nice place! next time i have any work/mods that need to be done, i'll give you buddy at ltbmw a shout. i'm still a bit undecided on which way to go with my '11 MCS. seems like NM is the easiest, but jan can do a more customized dyno tune. i'm about 10k miles away from being out of my warranty, so i might just sit tight. i've had my alta fmic for a while now, and feel like i'm not making any use of it. if i do decide to do a tune, i'm prob going to get a dp and an exhaust, if necessary to go to stage 2. hopefully in the time it'll take me to drive another 10k miles, there will be more support/options for the n18 engines. after that, i might get some suspension work done...we'll see.

If you need help installing something I can help out also. Nothing huge like a DP or exhaust, but something like an intake or the Aquamist kits, JCW kit, I can do. My friend can order anything you would need. His shop has been mentioned in May, June, and July issues of European Car and will feature a 600+hp E90 single turbo 335i in the Tuner GP shootout at the end of the month. If you are in the 626 area or drop by his shop, don't hesitate to hit me up. I'm always at his shop talking to customers or chilling with the guys there.
Here's a thread with pics over on E90Post where he hosted an End of Summer meet last weekend.

I'd give you a ride, but I'm afraid you'd be disappointed driving home after you ride my R56.

I have a friend that continues to say he would never run a RMW tune. I won't get into a debate over Jan or NM, but looks like those are the only options at this point since AP isn't available for the N18.
I can't say for certain. That's something that was read in the AutoLogic. I'm not sure how individuals w/o a tool such as the AutoLogic can read the destination code. @ one point my friend's shop had the BMW GT2 which is the exact tool BMW/MINI use to read our codes, but he ended up selling it to another shop. The AutoLogic is a much easier tool to understand and troubleshoot others' cars. Sorry I wish I knew what to tell you though.
Yeah, The Village is a nice place to live in.

i've been toying with the idea of making the aquamist my next mod. i'm a little concerned with the carbon build-up issue with these direct injection engines. =/ DoS recently pulled an N18 intake manifold and confirmed that there is a re-route of PCV exhaust back into the intake. the build-up didn't look terrible at ~35K, iirc, but it's something that will get progressively worse. how has your experience with the meth injection been? i know it's more useful for tuned cars, but i figure it can't hurt with my stock engine.
curious to hear more about your friend's feelings towards RMW. jan is pretty darn local to me, but he seems like a hard guy to get a hold of, altho i've never tried.
as for taking a ride, i want your car to feel like a rocketship compared to mine. then i would get off the fence about whether or not i want to get a tune. =)
if your '10 MCS is MF3, is there any chance that the '11 would be MF1 or MF2? i'm not sure what the codes stand for, but i imagine the higher the number, the more recent it is.

I had a friend do his around 35k miles. I had mine done at 40k miles. If you want to get it done, my friend is offering a groupbuy for the walnut shell blasting. But knowing you're a '11, you're probably too low to consider it just yet.
I had it done and then installed the aquamist myself. If you intend to get it, let me know and I can definitely install it for far less than what most shops would charge you, which is normally over $500. My friend is getting his Aquamist HFS-4 soon, so I told him I would install it for me too.

Whether you have a tuned MINI or not, the Aquamist is an amazing kit that will be beneficial. Also definitely get an OCC (which I still needa get) because vapors will get through to the chambers that the Aquamist won't necessarily get to since you're only steam cleaning the valves when it's spraying.
You'll catch the mod bug as soon as you ride with me.

I'm waiting for a downpipe and I'm thinking on doing an OCC after. Then the Aquamist sometime in the next year or so. My motor was replaced with a refurb by MINI last Sept. Since its a refurb, should I expect a significant build up or is it worth waiting another year or so to get a blast?
