Doesn't really matter. Both engines are interchangeable, vice versa. I've done it on my wife's car, from B46 to B48, no issues whatsoever.

Without some sort of ECU reprogramming, how are the two interchangeable?? The B46 is the SULEV version of the B48, so there are small but notable differences between the two.

Interchangeable no matter which way. Same motor, minute differences. I've went B46 to B48 without a hiccup. The whole SULEV setup are just peripheral component differences. The biggest one I remember is the radiator. if you have the B46 then you have a black radiator (special coating). On this radiator you'll have a sensor which the B48 don't have. But if you're only swapping the motor, this doesn't matter, just don't break the sensor on the radiator.

Yes, you will need to move the oil level sensor over. Other than this, it should all bolt up like lego pieces. I didn't need to re-program the ECU after the swap, just plug and play. Though there are minute differences among the cam VVT actuators, they still work plug-n-play.

Although for my swap, I drove it for about a month, then went to get ByteTronik stage 2 tune, it only made the car perform much better.

Depending on where you live, is it possible to have an issue with vehicle inspection? Thinking of California... I guess unlikely that the guy actually takes the time to look at the code stamped on the block. But I'm guessing it is supposed to match what came with the car, right?

If I remember right, something about a radiator sensor.
Check all coolant sensor connections.

I think you may have the same issue I came across when I swapped from B46 to B48. On B46 cars, these are SULEV and therefore the radiators come with a special black coating (something to do with reduction of ozone whatever). There's a sensor attached onto the radiator detecting the efficacy of those coating because in time they will wear out. If you're doing the swap and HAVE REMOVED the front end to do so, chances are you've removed the radiator, too. And I couldn't recall how, but the way I removed the radiator I couldn't simply unplug that sensor. Therefore, I pried that sensor off in order to free up the radiator and get it out. Turns out, I was never supposed to pry the sensor off, it'll just rip the integrated sensing element to the radiator. I get a CEL for Environmental Catalyst Open Circuit Fault or something of this sort.

Once I put in a brand new radiator (with new sensor attached), the code went away. All are good afterwards.

Did the B46 exhaust mount up to the B48 engine without issue?
