F55/F56 Brake Force Display
Brake Force Display
Does anyone have a video of what brake force display looks like during hard or emergency braking? Supposedly your flashers automatically come on and I was wondering how much force is required. Just today I had to slam my brakes to avoid rear-ending another vehicle, I braked really hard, just on the cusp of the anti-slip clicking on but I didn't notice anything in the heat of the moment as things on my front seat flew forward and I made sure I didn't get rear-ended too. Thankfully my brakes worked wonderfully... Any videos out there of the lights coming on during hard braking?
In the US, the cars do not come with that feature activated. You will have to code it. You can also set the amount of braking that will activate the brake light flashing.
I didn't take a video when I was testing it but it just rapidly flashes the brake lights.

Well that sucks, the owners manual says it does...
You can check out BMW videos of the system in use. Like this
. I had it coded for awhile and it activated several times as I got error warning messages about it. It really didn't take much for them to get flashing in my case.
On the R56 the brake lights get brighter with a second set of bulbs being lit up. No flashing. This I know from people who have been behind me on the track. There is nothing in front of the driver that shows this is happening, though. I would expect the same is case for the F56.

- During normal brake application, the brake lights light up.
- During heavy brake application, the flashers additionally light up.
U.S. spec cars have all red taillights and turn signals. Under normal braking, the brake lights light up. In a panic (or hard) stop, the turn signal bulbs light up, but do not flash. The result is a larger brake light display. Elsewhere, where the cars have Amber turn signals, they flash.

What's the settings to get just the 3rd bake light to pulse? Do you have a reference (guide, how to) you can point me to, please?

Default BFD on a MINI activates the turn signal bulbs as a steady glow to increase the area of brake lights.
I coded my brake lights to blink after a 40mph panic stop. and flashers activated after/during a full emergency stop from above 60 mph
I posted a how to with video, if you do a search you'll find it.
MAPPING_BRAKEFORCED_1_L_OUTPUT -> bl_l
MAPPING_BRAKEFORCED_1_R_OUTPUT -> bl_r
(this removes the error)
and
MAPPING_BRAKEFORCED_2_L_OUTPUT -> bfd_l
MAPPING_BRAKEFORCED_2_R_OUTPUT -> bfd_r
(this makes your taillights blink.)
Flashers after panic
3060
WB_GB_ENABLE = active
will activate the flashers during/after panic ABS stop!!
Flashers turn off upon releasing brake and resuming speed.

Otherwise you can also code the brake lights to flash, like in EU

Do you know is this apply to r56 too? if no, do you know what needs to be coded in the case of the r56? i would appreciate your help. Thank you.
Search for that thread.

I had my 3rd brake light coded to strobe or flash with hard braking. I’m not sure how fast you need to be going, or how hard to brake for it to strobe, because I can’t see it when I’m driving, heh, but it does do it, a friend behind me confirmed it.
Mariokart did it for me when he tuned it, by using Carly

I would like to all brake lights including the 3rd brake light coded for hard braking.
I don’t know if all of them can be done or not. Some of it depends on the year and model I’m sure as well. Somebody who uses Carly or Bimmercode can probably tell you.
There are some threads on here about coding. They have the info about the program and cable you need to interface with the ECU. And there are lists of coding options by model that I have seen here.
I don’t know enough about it to be much help.

Yes, in fact I saw your video and that is exactly how I would like to have it in my r56 but i dont know if it is possible to have it just like that.
i found it and woww it is an excellent thread it has great info and everything i was looking for. Thank you very much tv post sound i greatly appreciate your help. I will try and see how it goes and report back results.
UK owner here looking for some info on this.
i own a JCW LCI 2019 and use Bimmercode. There is an option for Force Brake Display in the normal (none expert) setting of the app I’m assuming this will flash all 3 brake lights?
Could someone please post some Bimmercode instructions to flash just the 3rd brake light from 10mlh (or close) with light pressure in the brakes
thanks

Instructions ar posted above.
Don't be that person with brake lights that flash on slow stops, it freakin irritating.
I get the 8041C3 Coding: lamp mapping failed code after the Union Jack rear lights retrofit replacing the LED version I have. The UJ light is the Europe version.
I suspect the software is running on an older version that does not recognize the BFD coding setup for UJ light, while it works in practice.
I have a choice to live with the stored code or turn off BFD completely. Thoughts and experiences?
