anyone have the build dates affected by the failed crank/thrust bearing? Just ran across a car that was not fixed and it has failed, clutch drops to the floor, I did not buy it

I know for sure it spanned the '14 and '15 models, but I also know that I've read about later models having the problem too. There is a long thread on the forum that deals with that specifically. My car is a 7/14 build date and had a new motor installed by Flow Mini/Raleigh at around 10K miles. I'm pretty sure someone posted a copy of the paperwork listing the recall/service enhancement number/s.

EDIT: Found this thread. There are a few others as well.

now that they are refusing to cover these cars, do they always need a complete engine? Or can they get by on a bearings and crank replacement or better yet oversize bearings and a ground crank.

Anything I could tell you on that would just be a WAG on my part. Sorry I can't be more help.

From what I remember it was up to BMW to determine if the engine was replaced or just the bearings. The dealer had to send pictures to BMW and they made the decision on what to do.
