CEL MIL Code Help
Bought car a couple weeks back. 2015 with16K. About 2 weeks in filled tank up, day after got a MIL light one day after filling tank up. Cycled car a few times, tightened gas cap and went away, took to dealer anyways. Tech scanned said something about air catalyst code and said "should not come back". Well here I am 1 week later and also day after filling up tank again and came back. Yes gas cap is tight.
I have plugged in Creator 310+ code reader and all I get is 871B8302 "no description" and another screen I get B15904f, B1C800F1, B1FFF00 no description, I think these are just the door open but not sure.
I had hoped getting code reader would help arm me before I go back to dealer but apparently not??
Just tried updating C310+ software and now it does not work at all. It's going back, can somoene point me to a code reader that for sure works with F56 and is not too expensive.

Go to autozone or similar like place and get the code pulled and then we can go from there.
i got an app called OBD fusion that reads and clears codes with a WiFi dongle. I also have a dedicated reader I bout at one of those stores for cheap

foxwell nt510 or ECS sells the Schwaben tool which is the same thing. They do more than just read codes, so might prove to save money in the long run.
At this point if you are under warranty, I'd just let the dealer figure it out and save the cash until holiday sale times when these readers will be cheaper.

Yes, still one year under warranty and will drop off tomorrow again. I still want a good code reader.
Is this the one you are talking about?

Any experience with the Autel MaxiCheck MX808 Diagnostic Tool? Seems more of a point you to exactly the issue, than deciphering code type scanner? Car is at dealer right now, will see what they say. Right now I am just investigating the best diagnostic tool for occasional use but one that gives me enough information to be helpful for someone who does not speak BMW/Mini code.
This appears to be generic version of it?

Dealer just emailed to tell me the radiator is what the the CEL light is on for. OK, I guess, part will be here Thursday. Seems odd, but what do I know. Found an old thread about code 1B8302 . I did actually get that code with my reader. So seems they may be onto something. Will assume the new radiator comes with the sensor but who knows. Always difficult with a service advisor in the middle.

Seems this thread shows it is part of the radiator. Hurray.

Service advisor didn't tell me in the email they sent. I will see if I can get when I ultimately pick up car i a couple days. I did get a 871B8302 "no description" with my reader which is consistent with the threads above where dealer replaced radiator and associated sensor so I am assuming that, but cannot confirm.

Car is back from dealer. It was code 1B8302, Environmental Air Catalyst. After testing protocol, radiator was replaced as sensor is integral to radiator.
Notes say, removed cross member bar, removed fan cowl, removed front bumper, replaced radiator, reinstalled front bumper, reinstalled fan cowl, reinstalled cross member. Used 1 gallon coolant, deleted codes, test drove, no issues.
