Not your typical rear fog light question

Hey guys. I have an ‘18 JCW which is pretty much bare bones. I wanted the performance without spending money on the extras and will be putting the money saved into mods. Which brings me to the fog lights. I’ve read a few posts about using BimmerCode to code the lights, which cant be done without a switch. I really want the lights because l live in SW Florida and drive in a lot of low visibility conditions.

Why can’t I splice the wires to the fog lights, run a wire to the battery and a switch in the cabin to operate the fog lights? Basically the same idea as installing driving lights on the bumper.
I have not seen anyone mention this and was wondering if there is a reason it can’t be done.

Thanks
-Steven

You can do that.
but most others just utilized them as tertiary brake lights. I personally wanted to keep the original wiring and just bought the switch.

you where able to install a switch to the wire harness and with the BimmerCode activate the rear fogs as fogs? Is there a thread on that?

post #83 touches on part of it. adding a switch shouldn't be a problem.

Let me flush this out... buy new switch, plug it in with existing wire harness I just removed from original switch, code rear fogs... it’s that easy???
That said I have a JCW so no front fogs, will the new switch screw with anything?

Yup. That’s it. I believe it’s addressed in 3rd Gen FAQ under BimmerCode.

Lol yes, it’s one of the few things that’s ridiculously simple on the f56. That and the paddle steering wheel retrofit.

I believe you can actually code for them to be rear brake lights and rear fog as well. They would be solid when the rear fog is selected and when the rear fogs are off they would only come on when you brake. I think it's in the same thread that vette referenced.

Yep that's correct. I just found that to be way too many brake lights, looks like a Christmas tree back there.
