Am I missing something?

Hey all,

I recently picked up a used 2015 Cooper and I noticed that other owners trunks look different. I've always thought that this looked strange and wondered why it was not flush with the seat back like every other hatchback. Is there a piece that is missing from my car?

My car has an optional floppy basket that fits in that space. Others have a flat floor option that makes it . . . flat.

Yours did not come with the optional/more money "Storage Package"
The lack of hinges behind the rear seat reveal that.

It can be retrofitted:

I have a 2015 and the panel at the bottom of the trunk can fit in at two levels. At the lower level it makes the storage under it smaller but enlarges the trunk slightly. At the upper level, it aligns with the folded rear seats, and it also makes the space under it a little larger. I leave it in the upper position with the rear seats folded for my two dogs. That gives them a flat surface to lie on. The upper level is supported by flanges, and even without actual hinges it works well. Just pull the panel all the way out and put it back over rather than under the flanges.

Yours is standard just like my 2015 F56. I just bought a weather tech liner that fits right inside, it is waterproof and holds all my portable cleaning supplies like instant retailer, micro fiber towels, etc, and also holds my Green slime flat tire kit.

My used mini also did not come with the piece that makes the floor flat. I was just assuming the previous owner took it out because I probably would have to and then forgot to put it back in when returning the lease vehicle.

It doesn't matter but just for curiosity sake was it supposed to come with that or is that an option?

It’s an option....I believe it was about $200 or $250. That option also included a rear 12v outlet as I recall.

My F56 didn’t come with that option because I really didn’t know what it was, so I didn’t order it. It’s nice but not needed by many....I am fine with the sunken boot back there and I added a cargo net which is really nice!

No "Storage Package" option. Was a $250 option in 2015 if I recall correctly. I have it on mine, It's kinda nice to be able to keep some stuff out of sight and still have a clean looking boot area. Storage option has a 12v plug (for whatever reason) and the ability to adjust the lid over the storage area to be perfectly flush w/ the entire rear area w/ seats folded down or can but positioned a bit lower for a "step-down" appearance.

I like it and think is should be a standard feature considering the asking price of a Mini. But hey, it's a Mini/BMW and everything extra is going to cost you more. Now the "Festival" lighting (excitement pkg -LOL) is $250 more, where it was included in 2015.

At the rate they’re going, everything will be an extra cost option in five years. They seem to change one or two standard features to an extra cost option with every new model released.
