Should I do this? Really want to...

I really value your input, so I'm wondering what your take is on this. I presently have a 2015 Justa 6 speed manual and have been having the urge to buy a hot rod. Of course I looked at muscle cars, Charger, Challenger etc., but I really do not want a giant car and cannot bear the thought of being without a Mini. So, I'm looking at a 2017 JCW with just the options I want. Sticker is $34,750 and dealer is at $4,000 off sticker and xlnt KBB trade in value on mine ($15,200) for openers. I want to push a bit more, but how is this for starters? Plus, those of you driving a JCW, will the ride kill me? The JCW has the same wheels and tire size I do, and does not have the dynamic damper system. I presently have the sport suspension on mine but.......Thanks, Bill

Buy the car! Sounds like a good $ deal and you won't beleive the difference between the Justa and the JCW,

Sounds like a very good deal! I'd jump at it! The sport suspension on the JCW is stellar imo...I've driven & ridden in cars with sport suspensions that are "rough" but not the JCW....if you are used to sport suspension you'll love it!

Thanks--good to hear as I consider my 3 cylinder pretty peppy. Can't imagine nearly another 100hp! Nice to hear that the ride is good too as a buckboard I do not want! I "built" one online and it's now $950 more than the sticker on this one, so I have that to factor in as well. It's been there a while and dealer wants to move it. Crunching numbers in the morning with the sales rep and I'll see if I can get the Sirius turned on and get a tad more for my trade, which is exceptionally clean and low mileage. Wish me luck.

Well, they wouldn't do the Sirius activation or even meet in the middle. They're saying $500 is the cost to turn it on, which seems a bit high. I'd have met them halfway on that but they won't budge..........oh well, I'll keep driving "Pokey". Would have been fun driving that though.

They will probably come back at you if they felt you really want to buy. Times are tough at MINI, not enough sales.

IMO, the Justa with a Dinan chip is pretty darn fast and fun. Unless you are racing or just need to have it all then the 3 will get it done. Just drove my wife's Justa this morning and really enjoyed it. My S with Dinan and sport mode is too much power around town as it is.

You're right, they just hit me back and now want to activate the radio and charge me 1/2. I think I'll just stick to my guns and not do it unless they throw in the activation. I would have done the half way meet if they'd agreed, but since they first said no (and started the dealer game) I've had time to re-think it. My trade only has 10,900 miles, and is pristine, so I would hope they'd make some money back if they paid me $15,200 trade in for it. It has 2 years 3 months and 39,000 miles remaining warranty.

Update----Dealer called and they will do the radio as a perk! Now I am excited. Picking up a JCW with premium package and cold weather package in Chili Red for $30,750 + Tx and Doc. Just built it on line and the cost (list) is $6,445 higher than what I'm paying. Happy with that.......CAN'T WAIT!!

I think one of the best negotiating strategies is to walk away and let them call you back. You proved it. Best of luck, I'm thinking your car at $34K is probably equipped the way I would have ordered it, no frills just the go stuff.

Glad it worked out! I was about to say that you didn't want the JCW enough to walk for only $250! You will graduate from a Justa smile to a JCW Permanent smile! Thumbs up on your JCW purchase!

Ha ha I will have a smile. It got down to the principle of it more than the $250. I've done so many deals in the past that I just don't have the patience to deal with dealer maneuvers.

CONGRATULATIONS

I lurked on this thread and said to myself, "This motorer needs no help in nailing the right deal." And you did.

Two things. FIRST, if the paperwork hasn't been signed, send a confirming email to your MA listing ALL the details you/they have agreed to on your deal so there's no chance of a "you must have misunderstood" game.

Second, once you have your car, PLEASE take a few moments to post the details of how you managed your deal on the How to Buy a New MINI -- The Art of the Deal sticky so others can benefit from your negotiating skill.

Well done!!

Thanks. I think Mini's slow sales had more to do with it than my skills, but I usually manage to get really good deals. Those I attribute to timing & inventory more than anything else. I had them send me a work order purchase sheet from the sales manager with sig on the complete purchase breakdown (all taxes fees, trade, and payoff) and applied for the 1.9% and got a confirmation call that it is indeed 1.9%. Of course, it is a car dealer. If I hit any snags I'll be sure to post them. Appreciate all the help from members here including "The Art of the Deal", which I read more than once!

2017All4--I posted in The Art of the Deal and addressed buying out of state, as some may decide to do. You can save a lot! When I went back online and built the identical car and included the satellite radio and graphics, it was $6,445 higher than I paid. Hope the ride is tolerable--I do not have Dynamic Damper Control option.

You are gonna have so much fun -- we drive the cars, not the deals, but, in your case, you have the best of both worlds. A car you will love and a killer deal. With or without dynamic damping.

I read your Art of the Deal post. Excellent. Thanks.

Even though I have DDC, I did not find the ride to be overly harsh with the standard JCW sports suspension. If it feels too harsh, there is an easy solution ... dump the run-flats and the car will be transformed. The difference is night and day.

Thanks everybody. You put my mind at ease. I'm sure I'm going to have a blast driving this thing. Good thing I just had my Valentine One updated. Atlanta tomorrow, thunderstorms be damned!
