If aftermarket intakes do so little, why do they cost so much? I made my own for relatively low cost with a much nicer filter than the least expensive option out there.
this is something I've often wondered myself... I did a custom intake on a ford focus from autozone parts for less than 50 bucks...
this time around I managed to get the K&N Typhoon 93 for my mini cooper for MUCH less than what they can generally be found for. You can PM for details if you're interested in my methods....
Where dd you find the pipe? Did you have it specially made?
I had a friend help, but basically yes. I have been tossing around the idea of selling them for $125 plus shipping if anyone is interested. I could have 10 ready by next week with choice of color for filter.

Question for you & Way- do you keep the stock air box? Bottom and top? If so, is the sound really improved from stock? If not, aren't you sucking hot air? Thanks.

I ran it without the stock box, lower section, however the intake air temps are about 15-20 degrees cooler on average with the lower box there.
Hot air intakes, or "cash flow devices" as they are known to be called in the trade provide large cash flow to vendors due to the low cost of parts, zero flow bench testing & little to no engineering or dyno work.
I never understood why people pay ~$300-$400 on a device that loses HP?
The factory engineers got it right the 1st time! Intake air must come from outside the hot engine bay!
