Just read that this is a better place. That is true because when I entered my Vin # here it said that my software was up to date! The previous site allow me to down a bin file...
With this site I enter the vin of my previous (july build) car and it told me to update. So I would say this is the way to go.
I just checked my VIN on both of the websites above and they gave me the same exact update UPD05073.
Didn't have any previous problem with my iPhone 6 Plus and Spotify, but will install the update anyway.
Same experience for me when searching for the update with my VIN. I updated my F55 to the newest version, went smoothly. Fixed an issue I was having with Spotify + Bluetooth not updating on screen music metadata (artist and track info) when changing songs. Thanks OP for posting this - that was a really disappointing bug and I'm glad it got fixed!
Just an FYI on these updates (updates vs vehicle firmware)
Both sites indeed work and will give you the same file/update when available based on your VIN.
If you try to get an update and the site tells you "your up to date" there are 2 possible issues:
1) Your dealer did the update when you took your vehicle in for for service, highly unlikely and I'm told they don't do these updates unless they are trying to troubleshoot a audio/bluetooth issue and it's a last resort.
2) Your dealer has not updated the base vehicle firmware since production and the audio/bluetooth update will not download. This is usually the case (see below)
In case 2 you need to request the dealer update the firmware. They will not do this unless you specifically ask. The process takes 2-3 hours so be patient. Once this update is done you can proceed to download the audio/bluetooth updates from the sites.
I was case 2 from above; web sites would not give me the update. When I was at the dealer last I mentioned this, they tried the update, did not work either. When the tech looked at the vehicle build sheet and firmware he saw it was original production line firmware and did the actual firmware update. Once done I was able to download/install the audio/bluetooth updates.

A little tip for other people reading this thread: Most dealers WILL NOT do a firmware upgrade unless something is wrong. The process can take 2-3 hours, but sometimes it can take up to 7-8. This means that one of their programming bays is taken up, they have to set aside someone to monitor the progress and some will even put you up in a loaner, which again, costs them money. Full firmware updates can also introduce new problems so most dealers will take a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" stance. The only time they should is if something software related is not working correctly on your car that an update may fix or is documented to fix. For example, the rev-matching feature for manual F56s was disabled from 3rd-to-2nd for a while, but a later firmware brought it back.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is if you do take your car in and ask them to do this, they may not do it and they honestly have a logical reason not to. I'm not saying that CooperB is wrong, just trying to manage people's expectations.
The software updates linked above are for the Visual Boost and Connected XL systems and they will typically fix or improve Bluetooth connectivity with newer phones. There are two different BIN files out now for the 3rd gen MINIs and which one is for you will depend on your equipment. If you have a recent build, you may already be up to date.
There's UPD5073 and UPD7012. I have ConnectedXL and I just updated to UPD5073. UPD7012 I think is for those with Visual Boost. Also FWIW, I am still on my factory firmware, F056-03-05?-502
Most user unfriendly upgrade process I've run across in a long time. Terrible feedback to the user -- almost interfered with the upgrade a couple of different times due to the lack of any indications of progress leading one to think it's hung. But in the end, it did complete, and then indicate no update available when one tries to update again.
Overall, it takes about 10 to 12 minutes with several long stretches of no screen changes.
I just switched to an iPhone last week, and while I now have album art when using Spotify via Bluetooth, I have had at least three or four times where either my phone or the car would get in some mixed up state. Hopefully, based on the change notes, there may be better car/phone interaction now...
Previously when playing music from a usb stick, shuffle didn't work on the left/right arrows below the nav screen (to the right of the 6 presets). If you hit next track it would just go to the next alphabetical one. For some reason, the latest update seems to have fixed that. Shuffle still doesn't seem to work on the steering wheel controls though. Ah well.. at least there's a bit of progress

This does not sound typical. I've upgraded mine and a couple others more than once and the update process should only take 2-3 mins, tops.
Has anyone with an iPhone with IOS 9.1 had problems with bluetooth music not changing when selecting a song with the steering wheel controls? I'm also not able to play any bluetooth music without first pressing play on my phone since I upgraded to the latest IOS. I've upgraded the car software and reverted back to the last version without any change to my problems.

Same thing happens with my Android, no steering wheel controls and I have to press play on the device. Not sure when the next patch is due out.
Just had my firmware for the NBT headunit and my car integration level updated at the dealer. I think this is the latest for the F56.
Integr. level (actual): F056-15-11-501
NBT_I before integration level update
NBT_L after integration level update.
Media and Phone updated to the latest UPD5073 downloaded from MINI.com before integration update
Media and Phone versions after Integration level update.
That version isn't available for download yet I guess. Any changes?
I noticed Iheartradio, Spotify and Tune In all display album art and meta tag data perfectly whether it's through USB or Bluetooth connection. Also the navigation side seems faster. Haven't played around with it too much.
