On my 2015 Cooper when switching to high-beams the low beams go out.Now the area just in front of the car goes black, about 40ft. My R53 did't operate that way. Did MINI change something in the newer generations?
yeah, this freaked me out the first time with high beams. Thought I had a bulb problem
got the Sylvania ultra. helps a lot, but miss the low with the highs. You know,
The reason I was told about this it is a non-blinding high beam. Try it, you wont get flash backs from on coming drivers like the regulare high beams found on most cars
Yeah, my hi-beams reach out there and although I lose the low beams, It's not like I can't see what's on the road between the high beam focus point and my car. Different, but still quite functional IMO.
Ive noticed on my current car it does that if you push the stalk away from you to activate the high beams. The one that 'locks' the high beams in use. If I pull the stalk toward me for the temporary high beams, both the low and the high beams stay on. I rarely leave my high beams on for longer than a few seconds so I always have the lows on when I use them. Give it a shot, it may work on the mini too.

Thanks D Nyholm, I'll give it a try.
