Strange Automatic Power Window Issue

Hey Everyone - It's been a few weeks since I've been active on the forums, great to see everything is still humming right along.

I had a strange thing happen with the auto-up function on my passenger side window yesterday (and again today) and I'm wondering if there's some setting I might have enabled by accident and shouldn't have. After lifting the passenger side power window button once to initiate a roll-up, it goes up about half way and then rolls back down. Now, I can roll it up 'manually' by keeping my finger on the button, but it seems the default behavior for the auto up function is what I described.

I can't remember using the window on the passenger side in the last month to say whether this has always been the case, so I thought I'd see if anyone else has noticed this.

Your window might be meeting some resistance causing it to stop. The windows are also not auto if your door is open.

Sounds like something is wrong with the pinch protection system, which is present on your car. May have to have a dealer check this. I don't believe you can disable this feature.

From the owners manual:

If closing force exceeds a specific margin as a window closes, closing is interrupted.
The window reopens slightly.

My wifes 2012 Hardtop had serious problems with her windows and electrical. This was one of those problems. The window would go up about half way and then stop and roll back down. Was repaired and told it was an over voltage problem. The car was later bought back as a lemon.

Well it's weird, it seems like this was the issue (which after reading through some of the other posts I'm glad about). The funny thing is, the passenger door appeared closed and the car thought it was closed too because the 'door open' indicator didn't display. I tried opening/closing the door and then rolling up the window again and it appears normal. It's one of those things I will be keeping an eye on, but wow is that sensitive! I am thinking about coding it to close while the door is open just for that reason.

I just took my car to the dealer on Friday for the exact same issue. Passenger window goes up 3/4 of the way and then goes down. In my case, they said the cause was the window tint activating the pinch protection system. So I went to the shop that installed the tint and they couldn't find an issue with it. I will say I only had the issue a few times and it only seem to happen when it was extremely hot outside so maybe it has to do with expansion of some part. I plan to keep an eye on it.

Ah that's interesting. I have tint as well and it's been 90+ degrees lately, that could definitely be contributing. I'll keep an eye on it as well, thanks for the info!
