I just got a phone call from my dealer saying that MINIUSA issued a recall for the oil filter housing. Anyone else get this? I've already had 2 oil changes with no issues.
i believe it was only the 2014s that were affected. Yours definitely should have been fixed by now, but yeah, have it taken care of. There have been a few here on the forum where their car puked out all the oil suddenly because of this.
If you're in the recall I'd definitely get it done. Mine was built just after the recall dates and I had a failure on the interstate. Made for a bad day.
It's already scheduled, I've read all the horrific threads on this forum regarding this issue. The car is also there for the rain sensor gel pack failure.
Got the recall phone call today. Seems a bit ****ing late having owned the car for 14 months. Glad to see MINI is on top of things...not.
That's what I thought and asked why so late since this was known last year. The rep told me " I guess there were enough affected that MINIUSA decided to do a formal recall".
Just a guess, but I'd bet MINI is getting tired of warrantying engines. A filter housing failure at highway speed will kill an engine PDQ. Glad folks are going to get this fixed.
If you get a recall,
PLEASE post your date of manufacture.

They replaced the housing and on the service it told the tech to fill the engine up with 5L of oil, not 5 quarts. Apparently Mini had sent an update of the oil capacity change to all the dealerships.
Driving around downtown my MCS displayed "moderate power train malfunction, full power not available." It's being towed to Seattle Mini, four hours away, this week.
