Sooo I started a fight online defending Minis
Some GTI owner got on YouTube and was trying to rip on the Mini. I'm so tired of ppl that have never test drove or owned a Mini to pass judgment on them. So I called him out, and if anyone also wants to make a comment about, please do so.

Josh, People are ignorant and sometimes the veil is lifted and they see the light. Some remain ignorant in their bliss and not only are they content there... but they choose to broadcast their opinions as if they are the chosen one. It is my prerogative to do as I please! I have owned many cars that the vast majority would have opinions about....Audi TT 3.2 ragtop....loved it! Was called the hairdressers car! also a Porsche Boxster ....CHICK CAR!!! let them talk and all the while I am driving with a giant smile on my face. You are right that they probably have never driven them or would let themselves be seen in such a car because of what they perceive them to be. Missing out on (to me) the best "drivers car" out there. So let them be ignorant and leave us the pleasure of knowing that we truly are enjoying every moment we are behind the wheel and know that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink...it is as true a statement as can be made. Motor On my MINI brother.
Online arguments are fun sport--as long as you don't hope to win. Just when you think you've smoked all opponents with your logic, more nincompoops chime in with silliness! Here's what you do: let the haters criticize your MINI as you slowly walk to your car, go find a twisty road, and have a blast driving it like a F1 car, while they sit at their keyboards.
Back in the '60s and belonging to a very active sports car club I gained some off road driving skills that make MINI driving all the more fun. I love it when someone makes a challenging comment gaining them an offer for a ride. It only takes a few minutes on a particular road to shut them up. An internet challenge on the other hand is a pointless endeavor. There is no way to convince.
PS: You can lead a horse to water but if you can get it to float on it's back, you've REALLY done something.

Remember....
Anybody convinced against their will is still of the same opinion...
And now they just think the person arguing is no longer credible.... They just gave in to shut the person up....and do something productive.
Is it me or am I missing something... BMW's MINI used to be a great carry over from the MINI that was a little "A Clockwork Orange" and "The Rutles" .. unique and a bit irreverent and cheeky... and now they are becoming all "Grey Poupon" and "business suit".
I will admit they are many things to many people but to me they will always be just plain FUN!
Motor on!

Good to see somebody else gets it.....frankly I loved my r53, but you can't drive an older car forever....
Take away the mini attitude of old, and what's left with a gen3 mini? An inferior BMW?!
When mini was cross pollinated with BMW, yes it made it better...
But to skin a BMW, and just make it a front wheel drive BMW, with HUGE TAIL LIGHTS, AND AN ODD FRONT BUMPER, With a MINI tag...made me say...hm...time to move on..
The specialness (in my mind) seemed to have evaporated....
The center switches, gone, the cheeky corporate attitude, gone, the wonderful proportions, gone...need I go on?
Out came reasons why the front end had to look terrible.....Why the rear bumper had taillights the size of a Frisbee, why the center console switches went away...but with every explanation came " improved by BMW", or "engineered by BMW". Let's be serious, if you want a BMW, buy a BMW...Mini was never intended to be a feeder brand for BMW..... But that is what it has become..
Rather than make a great mini, MINI now makes an inferior BMW for those who can't (yet) afford one....yes..it is still a front wheel drive hatch...but...
Most if the fears of what the NEW MINI would become compared to the classics have come true....took 3 gens...but it happened.
Yes...I voted with my $$...truly the only vote that counts. Amazingly I DID buy German, but not BMW... Not cause it was German, but it meet my needs, and was exactly what it it proclaimed itself to be, and it meet my current needs.
Will I be back as a MINI owner...maybe, but obviously they need to get their house in order.

Nothing beats a good flame war. Especially after a bottle of wine. You just lie like a badboy and abuse the s*#t out of them!
I agree with Zippy 100%. MINI is dumbing down the brand in order to attract people who would otherwise buy a Camry. The new gen is eschewing all the fun-to-drive aspects of an enthusiast brand in favor of gimmicks that are unnecessary and silly.
The fact that the 2016 model will not even have a Sport Suspension option tells you all you need to know about the brand's focus and audience going forward.

I'm on my third MINI, and I well understand a mini, or MINI is not for everyone, but I wouldn't consider another vehicle. I'm a little unsure about the new four doors, and they ended the Clubman, but I guess BMW has marketing, or perceived, marketing pressures. I'm hoping my 2013 Clubman laSTS Forever.

The main cause is a "coupe", aka, a car with two doors, or less than 4 CANNOT be called a "company car" for tax purposes...and with tax rates of 90+% , a company car for use is very popular form of getting more $$ to an employee....
So the fact MINI was desperate to build a true 4 door and not get locked out of the company car market is not surprising....
The fact the sport suspension is gone on the S, AND superleggera appears dead...kinda says lots...
Marginalized? Maybe not...but certainly they are building cars that have a business case...
And when you do the unexpected, and take risks, you have hits, and misses....playing safe gets you more of the same...dull...drab...kinda like the colors in a BMW parking lot...very gray.
