Plastidip

I plastidiped the chrome ring around the top of the car and it pulled off along with the tape I used to section it. The chrome trim on the grill seems to be maintaining. I thought this stuff would work.

I plastidipped the light rings on my R56 almost 4 years ago. Still looks good.
Did you get any pics of your process? I'm awaiting my VO/VO and the first thing I want to do is get rid of the belt line chrome. Most people I've seen just do the tape but I would love another option.

The plastidip did not work on the belt line chrome. Very disappointed because I spent a lot of time taping off and covering the car. The chrome grill trim is working so far. As far as the headlights and tau lights rings, I bought the black ones from MINI. They were expensive but not a pain to have to worry about.

I've done the chrome line on several cars now. You have to make sure to pull the tape off when its wet, right after you spray the last coat. Pull at a sharp 90 degree angle and you should be ok. Also on the body side (under the chrome) it easier if you leave a 1" gap and just peal off when done, it will separate itself when pulling.

Hmmm... I may have to retry that. How long does the plastidip hold up on the chrome ring?

So far mine has been on for about a year. There is only one spot where a rock hit last winter on the hood piece that has a chip. Easy enough to redo.

Also look into "Tape & Drape". Makes masking go waaaaaaaay faster.

When using plastidip if you wait until dry to pull off masking tape you will need to use a plastic sharp knife to cut the plastidip so not to pull off with the tape.
