Ethanol free

As we all know ethanol attracts moisture, decreases fuel mileage and is just plain bad for internal combustion engines. Stewart shops in the N.Y. capital district and southern adirondacks is now offering ethanol free 91 octane.Up till now it has been impossible to find in this part of the country. My MCS, 90 BMW E30 and lawn and garden equipment are very happy!! Thought I would let us Upstate owners know.

Good info to know. Don't live in that area but do subscribe to an ethanol free lifestyle.
Here's a website dedicated to such and it welcomes input. It should also be better known among the community, but...

If that is true, how does a few more horsepower align with much poorer fuel economy plus ethanol being a negative energy source (consumes more energy and water to produce than it delivers)? And, as Lewis Black is wont to say - in a very angry tone of voice - "They're turning FOOD into FUEL!!!" Ponder that and the hunger problems of the world.

I wish there were more stations that did this.

Ethanol-free gas is a lot more expensive than premium at some gas stations in my area.

One thing to remember is that there are probably some beneficial additives (detergents) missing from ethanol-free. I wouldn't use all the time. Mainly, I use top-tier gas like Shell or Mobil.

Only used in my Merc Optimaxc outboard. I didn't see the benefits of running it in any of my cars compared to the price differential.

Outboards have had issues with the blended gas eating seals and gaskets resulting in very expensive repairs (as if owning a boat wasn't expensive enough ). Cars on the other hand, are designed to burn these blends, so, no worries IMO.

If one has deep pockets and wants to make a "green" statement, then by all means, buy it.

Follow the Money

Sorry guys, but ethanol added to gas ain't about improving performance, ain't about being green (or any other color) and ain't about food. It is about money-ie, in major subsidies provided by our politicians out of your & my pockets. Goes to the corn lobby/producers and the ethanol/fuel industry. Just follow the money. Ethanol is wrong simply for that reason alone. Let the laws of the free market dictate what we put in our vehicles, not corrupt corporations and corrupt politicians End of speech!

Ethanol hurts motors that have the tank vented to the open air. The ethanol picks up water from the air and damages the engine components. Examples of open air systems are mowers, weed eaters, outboard motors, dirt bikes, chain saws ... So I like Ethanol free gas for the open system engines but don't have a problem running Ethanol in modern cars and trucks. You can find ethanol free stations in the USA on http://pure-gas.org/

What water from the atmosphere is free?
And ethanol is bad ?

I've spent 1k injecting it with a howerton Aquamist kit,
And always use this http://www.tescopfs.com/our-fuel/specifications

My 140k 245whp r53 still seems to be running fine

Ethanol in a modern car or truck is fine. Ethanol and small open vented engines, chain saws for example is different. In these engines, they pick up water from the air, it gets in the gas tank and float bowl, sets there for weeks (or months) and corrodes the aluminum carb and causes the engine to not start or run erratic.

Modern cars are closed systems and are designed for ethanol. Small engines are different and this is where ethanol free gas has a market.

The Howerton Aquamist kit is not normally used on chain saws, dirt bikes or out board motors as far as I can tell.

Henry Ford's first automobile was designed specifically to run on ethanol, and the Model T could run on ethanol or gasoline. Of course in 2015, every new car sold in the USA is designed and federally mandated to run on at least E10.

Livestock feed is a by-product of making corn alcohol.

Thanks for the post!
I think I have seen 93 octane in VT.

That aside, if interested we have a MINI group that meets at the Albany Pump Station 1st Tuesday of each month.
