Installing F56 Side Scuttle Accents

Has anyone installed side scuttle accents on their f56. I just installed the grey and black checkered side view mirror caps, and was thinking of adding the scuttle accents to complement the look (also in grey and black checkered flag). No installation videos on youtube, and am concerned about the adhesive that is recommended for installation (ease of removal if I change my mind at some point). Any pics or guidance would be appreciated.

There is an earlier thread on this, although I don't recall whether there is a step by step how-to. It is reasonably straightforward. If I were to do it again I would use 3M double sided tape rather than the included adhesive - more options to change your mind.

I did find one thread, but it did not provide much detail. Are you satisfied with the fit and finish of product? Any pics? Do you need to disconnect batteries as per directions in your opinion. Thanks for input.

I just followed the included instructions (copy posted here https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d-removal.html). I don't think that I have any detailed photos, although you can see them installed on my car in my sig. The fit and finish is fine - I just go back and forth on whether having them and my stripes is too much.

Thanks Pennengr. The photos were just what I was looking for. I think it made my decision to get them. I will definitely take your advice on the 3m two sided tape in case I want to change the look at some point.

Not sure how much has changed from 2013, but here's a video of the removal.

That's for 2nd Gen only. The 'scuttles' for the F56/F55 are basically glued onto the panel, and surround the turn signal indicator.

If I put anything in that area, I'll apply vinyl or have the entire panel wrapped. You get a lot more options that way.

EDIT: The surround is what is glued / adhered. That's also the customizable portion on the F56.

Drat! I wanted the JCW scuttles and didn't want to do a dealer Install (with their labor charges).

Guess it's gong to be the dealer install $156 + labor or leave it stock.

Curious about the vinyl options you mentioned. Are there similar graphics available elsewhere?

I don't think its that big a deal. the surround or accent is glued, but it sounds like many have opted for 3m two sided tape.

Yes two sided tape would be my choice of affixing, but concerned about getting the stock one off without damaging the body.

Seems like a conspiracy by Mini to make my DIY upgrades difficult.

Scuttles are not glued. Owners manual has removal directions (p. 197 in 2015 manual). Just pull down from top then lift out.

For vinyl anyone that makes stripes or graphics should be able to make scuttle surrounds.

The JCW scuttles should be an easy install, just the video posted was a different version / generation.

Yeah, I was confused and generalizing 'scuttle' to include the surround on the F56.

F56+

The additional decor side scuttle are adhered, the side lights are snap in and out, in the center of it. Or on the metal panel if no decor side scuttle.

So, scuttles accents arrived. Scuttles popped out very easily. Dry fitted in scuttle accents. Just to be clear, the 3m tape or glue will be the only thing holding the assembly in place... spring clip on top side of scuttles and clips on bottom do not extend far enough to clip to side of car fender once the scuttle is clipped to the accent. Am I right? Thanks for feedback. Also, the tape I got is called 3m super strength molding tape (says its for moldings, rocker panels, emblems, cladding). Does that sound right? Tape pic below.

That looks like the stuff I used for reinstalling my badge after I installed my stripes.

So based on what you are sayning (and I'm hearing) is The scuttles once removed from the car are attached to the scuttle accents (they snap in place with the clips to the scuttle accent) and the accents and scuttle must be affixed (glued or taped) to the car body. As the original scuttle clips are too short to re-attach the entire component to the car body. yes?

Yes, UCSA - RET, that's how it seems to me. Just did a quick dry fit. Will do full install this weekend and post pics.

Installed scuttle side accents today. Was pretty easy, thanks to the advice of some other f56 owners. Pics below.

It is holding really tight with no noticeable gap. I made sure that I covered almost all of the contact areas, even in front of the scuttle.

Has anyone tried these?

For the price and ease of install, I thought these may be a decent alternative to the plastic surrounds.

Thoughts?
