F55/F56 Hatch Struts
Hatch Struts
I leave my hatch open a lot because I am constantly putting stuff in there to be recycled. (Also, it prevents me from seeing the poor fit of the hatch.)
Anyway, the struts no longer keep the hatch open. If I leave it up, 5-10 minutes later it fall shut. Anyone else have the problem?

I've never experienced this particular problem. However, it does seem that the hatch closes rather forcefully if you let it close on momentum. I've made it a habit to pull the hatch down most of the way and then let it shut via gravity.
I thought the struts were undersized for the application; apparently there may be some substance behind my theory.

I've used products from this company on another car. American made, easy install and worked better than OEM. No experience on the mini product however.
This is my chief complaint about my F56. The hatch crashes down. I'm waiting for my back window to shatter at some point. Its "ok" when I close it, as I'm aware of the issue, but when someone else closes the hatch, I'm just waiting for the glass to fly. Any suggestions for aftermarket items?
I actually like it being this way. My 2014 Mazda CX-5 trunk has to be slammed to close properly, sometimes even twice. With my 2015 F56 trunk, I can just let go of the lid from 6 inches from closing position. The first time I closed the trunk, I too thought the glass was going to shatter. lol.
We also have a 2014 CX-5 and I don't really have to slam that hatch. I don't like the iPod problems the CX-5 has, but otherwise a tight, well made vehicle.
Got a lump on the back this morning because the hatch crashed down on me w/in 5 or 6 seconds as I was removing stuff to be recycled. A BIG lump! Will have to use a broomstick to prop the damned thing up whenever I unload. I'm sure the dealer will do something about it when it's convenient to go there.

I sometimes keep the trunk open too just to air out the interior. I only started doing this after I replaced the trunk light bulb to a LED one as the standard light bulb gets pretty hot in there and uses a lot of power too (8 Watt) as it will be lit up for 15 minutes.
Yeah, the infotainment system on the $30k CX-5 is POS. I didn't get the tech package, but it still sucks taking so much time every time it syncs the address book, and playing USB music from track 1 every time. Otherwise a solid compact SUV. I'm happy with the base radio on the F56, at least the phone works flawless, and music plays where I left off.

Up until now, letting my F56 air out inside has been another reason to leave the hatch up. Never have worried about that light staying on for that 15 minutes.
Regarding the Mazda, the Mazda forum has a very long thread on the problems working w/ the iPod in the CX-5 and also the Mazda6 -- even the '15s. My iPod works great w/ my MCS and also worked great w/ my '10 VW CC.
Have you guys thought about laying off the beans for a while?
Take it to the dealer and complain. Warranty should at least put some new hatch struts on it, but if that doesn't fix it they need to pink sheet it and let MINIUSA know multiple people are having this issue. All they need is for it fall on someone's head.
Don't worry, I will!
