There's a counter when you first start the car that will tell you how many miles till your first scheduled oil change. You can have them done more frequently at your discretion.

The dealer will change it at one year or when the counter goes off whatever comes first. It's one year after the car was made not when you bought it.
Mine said service at 2000 miles because it sat on the dealer's lot for 9 months before I bought it in April.

Thanks to all inputs.
To my safe way , I will make an oil change at the first 5,000 miles for my 2015 Hard top S . Then I will wait for the counter in my car when the number miles reach 10,000 for the second oil change.

Personally I'm going to just trust the On Board Computer and get the free oil changes. I thought I would change my own oil but it's such a hassle especially getting ride of the oil. Plus the oil filter cartridge thing looks messy and the risk of over tightening the thing concerns me etc. going to trust BMW on this one and see what happens. I'll report back when I hit 100k miles. 😄

First of all, I think so too.
The only thing bother me is, up to 10,000 miles to have an oil change. By that time the engine oil maybe becomes black thick oil slick? or maybe Mini Cooper want to sell you another car soon?
Which way is safe? I want to keep my Mini little longer , less than 15 years? or by that time my cooper is old or obsolete?

If I wait up to 10K miles to see Mini Service Dept, than I will see them only 4 times to have free oil change. After that time and that it is.?

For the cost of one oil change that you pay for yourself, I consider it cheap insurance for the long pull. I had mine changed at about 4000 kms, and now will go on the Mini Service Schedule.

Back in the day, some of the Counters in the R56's would start at 15,000 Miles

Yes counters in the R56 were 15,000 miles. When MINI started having warranty issues due to that they changed the OCI to 10,000 miles.

My advice would be to do the first change early if you plan to keep your MINI for the long haul. I did mine on my R53 at 2,000, then every 5,000 miles. At 125,000 she still runs like a top.

Exactly what I've done. Had my first at 1000, then one at 5000, and the next should be on MINI, and then every other 5K on me, in between, MINI.

When you do change it here is a helpful DIY, note the kits have been updated to conform to the amount of oil needed via the OBC to read correctly. We have the tool and the oil change kits. Doing its yourself will also let you get familiar with the engine and also check things out if there is a problem.

Good luck.

MINI/BMW has discontinued the "yearly" or "annual oil change" rules for the 2014 models and newer, including all F55/F56 models. The CBS data is now set to call the vehicle in around 8 months if the vehicle is not being driven a lot. The intervals have been shortened significantly from the pre 2014 models.

The average driver's oil service will now fall around 6000-8000 miles.

Seems to be a slow response to all the oil consumption issues of the earlier models.

Is the new 8 months ConditionBasedService part of the software update?
I have a F56 produced in Sept 30, 2014, but I think mine showed a date one year later date.

Does this also mean mote free oil changes? (From previous 3 on yearly basis)
