Backup camera with rear park distance control

Where the heck are the guide lines the videos show???

If there's a setting to turn on the "dynamic changing arcs" as you turn the wheel, where the heck is it?

P. 121 of the manual has some information, but it's not very clear how you turn it on.

It should be on the screen somewhere when the backup camera is on.

As you go into reverse and the camera comes up, rotating the doo-hickey will highlight options for the dynamic arcs and one other thing I can't think of so you can flip them on/off. It's hidden in plain sight! ;-)

Thank you! And for others, the "doo-hickey" is the I-Drive controller ****. I've now been able to turn on my lines and I feel like I got what I paid for

I still think you paid too much for that. It's crazy how much they charge you for a simple backup camera that comes stock along with blind spot monitoring on other cars these days.

I didn't 100% pay for it. I had ordered a 2014 without it. My dealer then offered to switch to a 2015 for "the same price". Then all the required options popped up. Basically, we then renegotiated the deal and I got more off of MSRP making the camera and PDC (and some of the other options) all but free.

Having said that, and (knocking on wood) never having a moving forwards accident in 40+ years of driving, but having backed into things more than once, I kind of welcome the camera and sensors [though it's been quite some time since the last back up mishap].

Thanks, aaf--I wondered about that. My trouble is that my backup camera suddenly stopped working. I suppose I'll have to hit the book to see if there's a switch for that. The screen shows crosshatching with something tiny in the center. The warning noises do work on the park distance control.

Having a brand new dealer AND a brand new model aren't helping on either this or the suddenly-not-working oil quantity measurement.

Make sure the rear hatch is closed all the way. The camera shows no picture if it's "open" (not registering as closed) -- and you don't get any "open" warnings while the car is in reverse.

You may have some other issue going on, but perhaps it's as simple as this.

Yeah, I noticed that comment in the owner's manual. I haven't had any "open hatch" warnings while the car is in motion, though. I did slam it shut last night, but haven't driven since then. I'll check it tomorrow when I go out for an appointment.

Interestingly enough, I thought the mystery was solved when I read that section in the owner's manual. There's a photo that shows the on-off control for the camera to be in the exact toggle switch location as the driver's side window switch of the R56. After 7 1/2 years and over 100,000 miles in my previous MINI, I still punch the wrong location occasionally when running through the card gate in our gated community--and I remember doing that the same day that the camera stopped working. Aha! Except that when I went out to the garage I found that there is NO switch in that location--it's a blank! The photo is clear, and it's clearly wrong.

Although I don't have a rear view camera option. About a month or so ago, I couldn't for the life of me figure out why my car wouldn't flash its lights upon pressing the lock button on the key fob. The doors and hatch were all shut -- or so I thought.

The car didn't give me a hatch on light on the dash or anything. But what I found was that a small piece of blanket I keep in the back of the car had been caught in / near the latch mechanism. Although the hatch was actually closed, the car somehow registered as open. I removed the offending corner of the blanket, and viola! All was well.

So, sometimes, even something thin getting caught in the hatch door may "trip" the hatch as being open, even though the car may not know it is open.

Update on the inop camera--it's working now! I did nothing other than to reshut the boot hatch. I was not getting an idiot light that the hatch was ajar in the 200+ miles since the camera went dark, but apparently that was it. And I took the opportunity to rotate the iDrive to select the guide lines.

I'll see if I like it that way or not.

I've had the same thing multiple times -- no camera backing up and no immediate "not shut" warning.

It's on my list of items to be checked when I take it in for service.

This is the first time for me, so I haven't investigated further, but my R56 had a couple of little round black bumper thingies on the tailgate that could be screwed in or out to adjust tension. The F56 might have the same thing.

Great timing to mention this. My wife found a little black rubber bumper in the quilt we used in the back of the car this weekend when I let one our dogs ride back there (in a moment of weakness).

I'll have to look at the hatch door and see if there's one missing from somewhere ...
