Burning Plastic Smell

Hey, I just got back after a long drive and there is a horribly strong smell of burning plastic under the hood around the engine. Nothing is out of the ordinary other than the odor. All levels and temps are fine and nothing can been seen with a basic flashlight scan over the engine bay. Taking her in tomorrow. any suggestions?

Does the smell get stronger by the brake pads?

That is pretty normal on any new vehicle. There is all sorts of oil, grease, and so forth on and in the various exhaust parts and shields that burn off when you first start actually running the car. Nothing to worry about. Will go away after a week or so of driving.

I've had the car for a few months, this is the first time anything like this has happened, it smells through the wheel arches and ac with the hood closed and with it open it smells as if it is around the engine.

Brakes behaving normally? Any smoke or just the odor?

Plastic bag stuck to exhaust. Happens more times than you think.

You may no longer see the bag but you will see black stuff on the exhaust pipe. Take a peek under neath If so it's a bear to scrape off. You won't get all of it but some more "spirited"driving should burn off the rest

Brakes are normal, it's definitely not them. There is no smoke, just strong odor and like I said it under the bonnet in particular around the engine. Very true about the bags, I always "swerve to avoid them".... While hitting the apexes but no bag either... :(

How odd... I noticed this exact same thing last night.

We went to eat yesterday evening about 2-3 miles down the road, when we got home and pulled in the garage me and my wife both noticed an odd smell in the garage. We looked around and realized it was coming from the car. Opened the hood and found it to be coming from the engine bay.

Could not find anything on the radiator or exhaust. The drive home was normal, did not run it hard or anything but it's the first time I noticed this burning plastic smell. Engine bay seemed really warm but other than that nothing was out of place really. Smell went away as it cooled down. My F56/S just rolled over 500 miles so I've not opened it up much yet, maybe ran 2nd gear out to 4800-5000 rpm but that's about it.

Let us know the outcome if you take it in please. I'm not making the 40 mile drive to the dealer for this just yet. Mine is in the engine bay, not near the wheels/brakes/exhaust.

How did you find it? Guess I need to look at mine more closely... just strange it was coming from the engine bay.

Same, if you can get under your car with a flashlight try to. Mine definitely REEKED of pure burning plastic so if it smells anything other than that I'd watch you temp, oil, gas. Check under the car for leaks.

Yeah the scraping was a little bit of a tough job but now she smells better and I don't have to worry anymore! Thanks again, I've never had this happen before!
