F55/F56 Sports Mode Setup

Sports Mode Setup
I'm sure you have all played with this.
My questions is "Drivetrain". Besides changing the way the throttle reacts(becomes more sensitive) - I see no other difference in the standard transmission. Seems kind of lame.
I do like the drivers excitement display but wish you could customise it to show boost pressure and water temperature. Would be way more practical.

I believe it changes more than throttle response and steering. I have to believe that it changes fuel delivery and maybe even turbo boost as well. Yes, throttle response is definitely heightened, but WOT runs from a start in the three modes feels very different. In Green mode, WOT from 1st gear feels like I lost 2 cylinders or most boost. Darn right horrible. Mid mode is a compromise that feels like some power has been lost. Beyond throttle tip in. Sport mode gives me what I wanted from my MINI S to begin with. Sharp throttle response and full-on power through the RPM range. I would love to know exactly what changes are made with the computer in Green, Mid and Sport modes. I just have to believe that if you put this car on a dyno, and did 3 pulls (Green, Mid and Sport), you'd see a big difference in fwhp and torque between Green and Sport.

In addition to the throttle sensitivity, I have noticed that when accelerating and letting off the gas, the car keeps the lower gear slightly longer. I believe the shift points are changed when the car is put in "sport" mode from "mid" mode. I rarely use sport mode anymore, mainly mid and green.

The first thing I noticed about "Sport" mode when we initially test drove one of these was the exhaust popping on the downshifts. That means the ECU has disabled overrunning fuel cutoff and is allowing unburned fuel into the exhaust manifold (unless the sound is fake and actually made up in the head unit, LOL...) The adviser made a point to mention to ask me to listen for this sound, so I guess they are trying to impress people with it. Personally, I just keep the car in Mid mode most of the time.
Anyone out there got an buetooth OBDII setup for their smartphone yet? We could learn a lot by looking at A/F ratios, boost level, and ignition timing between the three modes.

I use from Amazon along with the Torque Pro Android app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torque
I've used this setup in a 2003 Audi A4 turbo, a 2013 WRX and soon to be my 2015 Justa. It's worked well on everything so far. Gauges galore and it hooks into a lot more than you'd expect.

They run different engine mapping (afr, timing, boost, etc) between all 3 modes. It is NOT just adjusting throttle sensitivity like the Sport button on the R56
1/4 mi & 0-60 times are completely different between the 3 modes as a result

Does not feel like that to me. Pops are from the interior speakers..
Here's a quote from the "Motoring File Review"
"MINI’s new driving modes are a significant update to the car. Sport Mode made huge improvement over the previous sport button. The system now adjusts three things: throttle mapping, steering weight and suspension firmness in cars with the variable dampers. It’s also lightly configurable, with drivers able to select the suspension settings separate from the Sport Mode throttle mapping and steering weight. You cannot, however, turn on Sport Mode and then turn off the extra steering weight that is programmed in. You also can’t select the firmer “Sport” suspension dampening in Green mode, which is unfortunate. All that said, the big take-away for me was that at least the firmer steering of the sport mode doesn’t blunt the feedback through the wheel like the previous system did."
What he says feels right by my driving this car.. Hey maybe we are wrong just his and my opinion. :-)

So you are telling me you think Green mode feels identical to Sport mode when you go WOT?
You can feel it holding back boost in Green, pretty apparent too...
The pops in sport mode are not from the speakers...listen to one from the outside, that is one piece of the sound engineering that is organic
