Getting back to the whole rpm control-thing, what it felt like to me when it happened was not so much that the motor hit a rev limiter as much as it hit boost cut. Again, I could be totally wrong about this since I have no clue how Mini programs their ECU's but generally speaking, when you hit the ECU's rev limit, the motor does not just stop (as it did for me...). Generally, the engine continues to run and usually "bounces off the tach" at that point, until you lift out of the throttle.

On boosted motors, there is often a safety feature called "boost cut" or "lean cut" that actually stops fuel flow to the injectors. That, of course, stops the motor altogether. That's what it felt like to me. Not hitting the rev limiter. Just my observation.

Tachometer
Always avoid engine speeds in the red warning field. In this range, the fuel supply is interrupted to protect the engine

Does no one over here understand gear ratios? At 40 MPH in first gear, your engine would be at 7,500 rpm... The engine does not want to do that.

My math says 7500 rpm sounds about right for the Cooper S.

F56 MCS specs state peak (189) horsepower is maintained from 4700 - 6000 RPM. Is redline 6000?

Red shows above 6400 RPM on the F56 tach.

Don't know, if this is something everyone experiences, or just me. I don't drive like this all the time, but it's annoying, while having fun with other drivers.
