New Mini Owner

Howdy guys,

After many years of looking over with envy, I'm now the proud owner of a Thunder Grey MCS. I went in looking for a Justy, but left with the S. This is also the first new car I've ever purchased all on my own so you can imagine the excitement. It's nothing too fancy as far as options go; it was pulled from dealer stock. Mini #2 will be ordered for sure.

So far it's been a hoot to drive around. I'm coming from RWD so that's taken a little bit of an adjustment, particularly in the corners. I averaged 32.3 mpg coming home back to Corpus Christi varying between 80 to 90 with my foot firmly planted more than a couple of times.

I'll be posting some DIYs in the upcoming weeks as I retrofit a few options and accessories the car did not come with. Hopefully they are of some use!

Specs and pics as follows:
  • Premium Package 2
  • Sport Package
  • Mini Connect with XL Nav
  • Comfort Access
  • LED Fog Lights
  • 18" Cone Spokes
  • JCW Steering Wheel

Very nice! I have a MCS in Thunder Grey as well, without the bonnet stripes. I really like how yours looks with them, I have been thinking about adding these, and now that I have seen your pic, I am sold! Thanks for posting!

Break in period? Break in period? We don't need no break in period!

Great looking car.

Dare to be different. I like seeing ones that don't look the same.

Your MA looks like Brian from Momentum Mini. I talked to him and test drove with him. Good guy. I just got my TG MCS on Saturday (different dealer). Enjoy it.

I'd say it's well equipped. I like grey now that I have one too. Congrats, the first new car is cool. My first one was a BMW 325is and I loved it.

I wonder if they had any idea how popular Thunder Gray was going to be, lol.

Thanks for all the kind words.

You know, I wondered about that. My previous car had a little sticker warning of break in procedures, but the Mini seems to be lacking one. I haven't cracked open the owners manual yet to see what it says. That being said, I haven't been too hard; just a few sprints here and there.

That's him. He was nice and helpful, I wish the sales manager was a bit more pleasant to deal with, but she got me a good deal on my financing that both of my banks couldn't beat.

Funny story about the TG, I like Moonwalk Grey better actually. They had a MG with more tech bits, but I wanted the nav. And for those of you who like the stripes I'll mail them to you when I rip them off! lol

Driving lights, retrofit the storage pack, add satellite radio, and hardwire my dash cam and radar detector.

So I drove up to Austin for the weekend. Me and my buddy washed the Mini for the first time. We used Optima no rinse soap, followed by a little Griots paint sealant. It was the first time either of us had used the product. The Mini turned out well!

Congratulations on buying your first MINI. I bought my first one (MCS in British Racing Green) in April. My second color choice was Thunder Gray. Enjoy it!

Nice photos by the way.

Lots of information about how we drive our MINIs is kept on the computer, and the dealer has that information when he plugs our "key" into his terminal.

As far as I have heard, over 15 years of owning BMW's and a few more with other OBD2 cars, I've not heard of one story about dealers even mentioning break in performance. If you think about it, every dealer demo car would be a problem.

I did have my dealer ask me why I'd hit the speed limiter more than a dozen times on my old M Coupe. He was relieved to know it was all at the track.
