Strangely, both had that whistling thing going. The Mini was in stealth mode. Something to do with the tarmac maybe.

Maybe a Justa would have been a better match for the poor little Fiat...

That was not a fair fight. :-). Lets see how the Justa does against the Abarth.

I think it was a fair fight: Each car is its company's sport model, one step up from the base. And really, if you're a guy, which one would you rather be seen in?

No it doesn't. The Abarths sound amazing, especially in person. Like a mini Ferrari! You wish the MCS sounded as good!

I agree. That sound was such a surprise when I test drove it that I got a goofy grin on my face (which doesn't happen often). I've watched a few car review videos and any which feature the Abarth and contain that sound make me smile. The rest of the car is cheap feeling and too tiny but I can't slight the sound of those pipes!

They had this article in the local paper (reprint I'm sure) today about the top 9 sporty cars for <$30k (GTI, WRX, Fiesta, Abarth, the usual suspects) and they didn't even compare the MCS. The Abarth was too slow they said. The others had cheap plastic interiors (WRX). The MCS would have beat all but the WRX in the 1/4 mile I think.

The Abarth doesnt have a stock exhaust, so to get better sound note from a MCS, just slap an Alta or Magnaflow on

I dove a fiat 500 base, and the exhaust sound is awesome. I'd trade my r53 exhaust note for it any day of the week. I agree it sounds like a mini Ferrari.

Uh, yes, it does. The stock Abarth exhaust note is heavenly. It's a shame the rest of the car doesn't shape up to it.

The new MK7 GTI is quicker than the F56, trust me I've driven both.

Saw an Abarth at Lime Rock Park on the track, the exhaust appeared to be different than the one on the straight 500. Your saying both cars share same system ?

As have I and I agree the stock GTI is faster that the stock F56. While I love GTIs, the damn MCS is just a ton of fun to bomb around in. I thought I was a GTI Lifer until I drove the silly MCS.

They don't share the same system but even the regular 500 sounds good.

It sounded like a jet due to far distance from the camera.

I'm saying the exhaust on that Abarth in the video is the stock Abarth exhaust. It isn't aftermarket. Maybe I'm just misreading what you wrote.
