Paddle Shifting

My MCS is my first personal car with an automatic and a paddle-shifting automatic at that. In Sport, I really like how it shifts itself.

So far, I've only used it to downshift a few times, but am wondering how others are using it.

Is anyone using it to shift like a manual? 1-2-3-4-5 and then 6th.

Does it actually go into 6th? My previous 2008 only went into 5th.

Paddle Shifting How To?

Would love to hear comments, need to read the manual. I have never touched them in the S Coupe. Looked for Mini Videos "How To" and could not find any. I guess pull back to shift up and press to shift down. They work without moving the shifter to the left but not sure.

Scary looking things! And yes I can drive a manual but chose an automatic Coupe because of terrible traffic for long hours and hate riding the clutch.

I assume using the paddle shifters will make the gas mileage terrible is that true?

I was under the impression the left paddle down shifts and the right paddle up shifts?

Yes, you can use the paddle shifters with out putting the shifter into the lady position. Only problem with that use is IF you don't continue to shift up and down...it will revert back to normal D.
With the shifter in the left position you can then use either/both the paddles or shifter to change gears.
You can do these things without the SPORT mode being on....normal drive or sport, your choice.

Yes, the shifter does go 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 all the way, it doesn't stop at 5th.

I use the paddle shifters more than 90% of the time......'14 fJCW Clubman......not sure about the MPG's as I didn't buy it to be a gas savings car.
I enjoy the DRIVE more than any I have ever had before!

I do however take off from lights/standstill in 2nd as this gives a smoother launch than 1st does and it allows for what I feel is a very long and string pull heading to 3rd.
Plus with the car overriding the shifting IF you forget to shift, I've found out that it never gets past 5k RPM's in first before it shifts automatically.

But how ever you are using them, the paddles are cool and smooth, IMHO.
I too would have loved a manual gearbox, but if something should happen to be, the misses would need to drive the car and she can't deal with the manual box.

Hope I didn't ack or ramble too long.....love my R55 big time!

Good information. Taking off in 2nd ought to be even easier in an F56 w/ its low RPM torque. Glad to know that it upshifts itself if we wait too long.
