Grill/Light Trim Removal

Anyone done this yet on the F56? Call me crazy, but I'm a bit hesitant to be the guinea pig when it comes to plastic trim bits.

Also, anyone done the mirror caps yet?

R99's project thread did that, I believe.

Just wish I could tell where to buy them...color coded or blacked out.

From one of R99's earlier threads: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-cooper-s.html

He bought them in chrome and had them painted to match.

Ah, he cheated.

I am wondering where to buy blackout trim rings, pre-painted.

You can't buy them pre-painted yet - although if you look at this parts diagram

http://www.etk.cc/bmw/EN/search/sele...CE/51/51_8985/

There are part numbers for the black headlight rings - but no part numbers for the rear yet!

Just buy the chrome trims and get a paint shop to paint them for you? Thats what I did and the finish is OEM.

Also the panda eye look is not good - so black trims on anything other than a black car are going to look odd!

I suspect as mine are chrome under the paint, they will need repainting once every 24 months or so due to the dreaded stone chip - this is from past experience with my R55 which also had CC'd rings.

On another note - if anyone has worked out how to get the large chrome grille surround off yet - I am all ears!!!

^perhaps put a paint protection film on them now that the paint has cured. Repainting them in the future will cost more and they will look bad inbetween paint if you just wait for stone chips. Just an idea!

The "panda eye" thing is something I kinda wanted to see first too. My (coming) car is BRG II with black stripes, roof and mirrors...was thinking that blackout trim rings would look cool...but now that you say "panda eye" I'm kinda leaning against it.

What was your cost to get them painted body color?

I have a blazing red with black roof, mirrors, rims and stripes. I'm planning on turning all the chrome trim black. Due to the black/red nature of the entire car, I think it would look fine.

I know which I'd prefer on a red car…. I've done both:

R56 JCW Stage 1 (panda eye):

R55 Clubman (CC'd):

It cost me £120 for painting the 4 light rings in body colour - but that also included the large chrome trim around the grille - which was done gloss black.

I think with the black roof/black stripes the "panda eye" isn't bad. I think the darker the car the better it would be.

Without the stripes it definitely looks better body color.

If I do it I'll probably lean body color too...even with black stripes.
