Agreed !!!

I'm not going to do it after market and have the Manufacturers Warranty possibly voided.

If you can get 250 from the R48, can you get 190 from a R38?

^I think you mean B48 and B38. And I don't know if there will be as much demand for tuning on the B38. I'm sure if a company does, 200 hp would be no problem

I agree 100%, Terry. Why risk having your warranty voided. And trust me, it will happen. While I don't have any experience with BMW/MINI warranties, I am intimately familiar with how aftermarket mods can affect a factory warranty. I used to own a 2003 Mustang Cobra. When I bought the car I asked the dealer what mods would be fine (warranty wise) and which ones wouldn't. Basically, once you mess with the motor you risk losing your warranty. I did decide to go with an aftermarket tune and smaller supercharger pulley, raising power from 363 to the rear wheels to 457 to the rear wheels. At the time, I was willing to accept the risk. I was fortunate in that I never had any issues that would have caused the dealer to possibly void my warranty. Also, the dealer itself doesn't normally dictate what mods are "acceptable" and which ones aren't. The manufacturer dictates. If the dealer says, repairs are covered and MINI says they won't be covered, guess who wins. MINI. Because they wouldn't then reimburse the dealership.

So you have to be careful here, UNLESS you 100% accept the risk of having your warranty voided. Me? I will wait for MINI to offer a performance upgrade package similar to what they offer the R56. It will most certainly come eventually and it will probably be in the $2500. range. And most important, it will come with a full warranty from MINI. Meaning it will not void your car warranty. IMO that's the safest way to go if you want increased power and still maintain your car warranty.

You pretty well summed it up. Tune at your own risk!

I for one will assume the risk and will at a minimum tune it...possibly other bolt on upgrades as well.

I Do-Not know when or if Mini will offer any power up-grade to the 2014 MCS.

My opinion id that will take place as the new motor has tons of room for more power to be added safely IMHO.

Bob,

You know I have the 800 plus H/P Bullitt Mustang.
The factory warranty was gone almost immediately once I started modifying it.

That was A-OK with me but our new 2014 MCS is all together a completely different story.

I'm not touching it in anyway to VOID the Factory Warranty.

As we both know any performance change to the electronics is more than likely going to instantly "Void" the Factory Warranty !!!

We are on the same page for sure on this subject.

I also will add this to those members that don't have the knowledge base and yrs. of experience I have on this sort of thing.

Don't mess with your New 2014 unless you are willing for the Factory Warranty to be, "Voided" ...

Good-Luck and have fun with your new 2014 machine.

Anyone on this forum that might have chipped a gen one or gen two car while it was still under warranty? So many of these chip mods are reversible, does anybody actually KNOW if the dealership can see if the car was chipped even after the mod was reversed? The Burger tuning kit looks like the perfect mix of just enough hp to make things interesting without stressing the engine, and it looks pretty easy to install and return back to stock.

There should be more demand with the B38! It's much cheaper, it sounds meaner and if tuning it can get it better than an R56?!! Sign me up !!!!

Hi guys,
This is my first post and I signed up since I helped my friend (the first F56 running BMS) to meet up with Terry@BMS and I am a BMS dealer.
He has been using the BMS Stage 1 tuning for 3 months now and he has no complaint but a big smile in his face every time he drive the car.
I figure one day there will be discussion about this and I am more than happy to help with the questions or even obtaining the product.
I have installed BMS product for a few years and I never seen any fault to their mapping where it damages the engine as long as it is within the recommended settings.
Also, I have Stage 2 on my 2012 528i and Stage 2 on my 2014 X5 35i, which I never took off when I bring the car to the dealer. I just disable it (which only do-able on Stage 2).
I was there when Terry@BMS making the first prototype and testing it on my friends F56.
I believe they are available to purchase already, I will find out more by Monday as I have it listed as Pre-Order on my website.

Any chance you can get them to post a video of the car in action? Give us some details around how the car drives with the modification? Thoughts around how capable the stock engine is at supporting the stage one tuning? Just dying for some meat around this product. There is really next to no info about this on the site.

My friend and I lives about 45 minutes apart. I will try to get some video, but from first hand experience, this what I can tell you for now.
Otw to Terry's BMS place, the car was bone stock, just a regular Cooper S. We floored the car, it was ok kind a feeling. You can feel the turbo boosting etc like regular stock BMW N20 engine (As I have 528i with N20).
We got to Terry's place, he take a look at the engine, hooked up some module to capture the stock engine behavior (timing, boost, air fuel ratio, etc). He drove around the block with a full throttle (we heard it while waiting at his driveway). About 15-20 minutes later, he came back and he said, "as expected, about the same as the N20 motor". He gone to his garage, dig out some Stage 1 box and start working on the prototype on the spot.
Once got it all hooked up, he tested the car with the basic mapping that he has in that Stage 1 board already and drove the car again.
This time he only gone for 5 minutes and came back, unplug the box and start tweaking the map from inside the house (supposedly).
Anyway, after the whole thing done, the said that that's what he will do for now, unless if my friend can come back to his office during weekdays for better mapping and final release wiring design (which I think my friend did it already).
Otw home to my friend's pad, we did the same thing as when we were otw to Terry's place, we floored it, and man. We felt the difference. Much better performance than my 528 (consider the power to weight ratio between my 528i and the Cooper S) since the Mini is much lighter.
The engine behavior is perfectly normal, no sign of fatigue or stress. Engine temp and sound are normal, no funny smell or sound.
I am not trying to sell any of you their product, but it has been proven and I had the first hand experience on it.

Oh, if anyone local here in LA that have the regular Mini Cooper, the 3 cylinder turbo engine, let me know. BMS was looking for a test car. I may be able to help you with the hookup on the tune.

Doesnt sound like much R&D was done from your viewpoint.

Maybe we should have Terry chime in regarding his tune.

Well, go ahead contact Terry@burgertuning.com and ask him yourself then.
Tell him that Ben at RG Sport told the story at the NA Motoring forum.

For those interested, I would definitely call Terry (Burger Tuning) before jumping. First, it's a beta (based on their website). And second, by just r33's posts alone it doesn't appear much R&D/testing was done. Sounds like a beta was strapped on and the owner told to come back during the week "for better mapping and final release wiring design". I'd want to be 100% certain that the product is solid and even hear from a few customers before I jumped on it. JMO.

Reading through the PDF, installation of this kit is pretty simple. And removing it, putting everything back to stock configuration, is simple as well. But again, I'd want to hear from some customers/users and from Terry first hand. But it does sound promising at this point.

I'd be mightily obliged if anyone can point me at a dyno chart for the B38 engine as installed in the F56 base Cooper hardtop...

Just sayin',
