Is the Navigation add-on worth the extra $750?

So just playing around with the configurator and trying to decide between adding Navigation or Front/Rear Fogs and Auto-dimming rear mirror. I currently have a TomTom with lifetime maps and haven't had any issues with it and store it in the secret compartment. True, you have to go through the hassle of plugging it in, etc, but I can't decide if it's worth adding the in-dash nav or if the fogs and mirror are money better spent ha.

I rarely use mine in my R56, yet I ordered it with my F56. I think I'd miss it.

But I don't think I'd be bothered if I never had it.

I would go with the Media Package for the display screen w/out navigation. I wish it was there when I pre-ordered mine. I get the plain old school radio.

An interesting thing I do see in my Vin (http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html) is that it comes with:

S6FPA: Radio MINI Visual Boost
S6NMA: MINI CONNECTED

does anyone think I am getting the 6.5" display??!
Also displays a picture of it!!

Can anyone with the regular radio, check the pic in the bmw vin to see if it's different? Thanks!

I wanted the Navigation because I hate to have to stick a portable on top of the dash. I prefer it built-in. I find the MINI navigation to be very fast when you alter the route. Plus it has a great set of travel options. I am very glad I went with it. So IMO it is worth the cost.

If you have Visual Boost listed, then you're getting a display and it's likely the 6.5". I don't think you can get the larger display without also getting navigation.

Pretty sure that's the 6.5" display

You have to have the XL option to get the wider display

Where do you see the pictures? I put in my VIN and it lists all sorts of things (like the excitement pack) that I don't think I ordered, but I couldn't find any pictures of anything.

Will the be any difference in the display if you get the HK radio option?

I have the hk option but stayed w/the base radio. Headunit doesn't change if you choose the hk option.

Personally, I've never seen an in-car navigation system that could even come close to an aftermarket dedicated unit or even to something like Google Maps on a smartphone. Unless I were forced to in order to get some other option, I would pass.

I wanted the Navigation because I wanted the HUD, and the HUD displays the navigation info on it, something I assume an external navigation system wouldn't be able to do. Without the HUD, I'd be less likely to be concerned with the navigation system vs a TomTom or using maps on your phone, which is far cheaper and as jcauseyfd said, likely better as well.

Well, I am very content and I am getting that free upgrade

I'm with you guys, I'll stick to Google Maps on my phone. It's always up-to-date.

Just on the right side of everything. Also, if you click on download pdf of it.

Is yours fully built?

Nav cost $2100 on my R56. And they said searching for retail outlets was a joke.
I passed but I will get it on the F56. It's gotta be way better.

I like the navigation system in my R56. It's accurate and it's rare there's not an address in the system.

I think it is extremely worth it. Having it built in and integrated is far superior in my opinion to any secondary device floating around the cabin. I had a Tom Tom with always up to date maps for many years but ever since my R56 I could never imagine going back to that manner of Nav. And the F56 setup is light years better than the previous iteration.

The navigation saved me last Wednesday. Before this, I was just using my smart phone's GPS. Well, the navigation together with real time traffic information, got me out of potential heavy traffic due to an accident on a major highway. I would have been late for an important meeting. The system intuitively gave me an alternate route, and I made it on time. My smart phone GPS does not adjust like that.

Google Maps and Waze (owned by Google) both perform dynamic real-time rerouting. I'm sure there are other smartphone apps that also do it. I use Waze, and it works very well.

I LOVE WAZE anyone know if it will pull up on the navigation with MINI Connect? Guy at work has a Nissan Truck and his will pull up on the screen in his if he launches the app on his phone.

Here's the Visual Boost edition (not the ConnectXL) 6.5" in my mini
There's so many menu and submenu, it makes you go crazy

I opted out of the navigation and the reason is because I use google maps and it works perfect for me. I set it up and put my phone in the beverage holder.

I have Nav in my F56. But, I have this huge windshield mount next to the drivers side A-piller for my Samsung Note 3 that I use Waze. Users note stalled cars, accidents, police (speed traps), and it auto reroutes me based on consolidated traffic reports from other Waze users, police, and state traffic departments. It would be cool to view Waze on the car screen as I don't like having a suction windshield mount on my super advanced F56.

I can get facebook on my XL screen now with the Android MINI Connected App so I will probably continue to use the phone for Waze, watch my speed on the HUD, play the radio in the background with the steering wheel controls, and check facebook on the dash screen while going to/from work. But hey, I'm not texting.

Everyone should use what they prefer for sure but I must say I find that the Traffic/construction info provided in the F56 NAV to be very close to real-time. This coupled with the Dynamic navigation function, the Nav is very good about re-routing your Mini on the fly to avoid congestion.

I would've gotten it just for grins, but I rarely want to even use it on my phone. I usually know where I'm going and where I live traffic is not a problem. For $750 you might as well, $2000 was outrageous in 2007. Hey can anyone show video on Mini Connected? My MA said it would show it.
