I sat in the car this evening for a play and discovered you can have the ring light match the mood lighting! You can also have it work like a rev counter. This pic shows 4 shades, I think there is about 8??
Isn't it fun? My favorite color is the red/orange. It matches the other instruments in color. My granddaughter, though, likes blue. Nice to have choices.

I prefer mine to match with the orange too.
But my wife's been driving my R56 lately and lets my daughter play with the colors while in there...it was purple a few weeks ago. Pink earlier this week.
if you hold the color selector down for 10 seconds, it will blink and do a continuous cycle through the colors. it's kinda cool. i have it set like that.

Really?? Is that a trick or is it in the manual? I didn't know that.
White is hard to see in the daylight.
So you are saying I should see white on the left that matches my speed and red orange on the right that moves to the left with more revin'?

White on the left lower side (think of a clock, white is where 7 would be), then you'll have red and orange on the far right (again the clock position of 4 and 5 is orange and red respectfully).
when the RPMs go up, the white starts to fill in the ring starting at the 7 position going clockwise until it hits the red line position at 5.
I didn't know you can make it read MPH.....how do you select that?

Which button is the color selector? I can't seem to change mine from the orange. I've made the rev counter feature work, but not been able to get anything else.

color selection button is in the overhead switches, second one in from the right. each time you touch it it changes colors, hold it till it blinks and it cycles through all colors continuously until you touch it again.
previous posts are misleading in that you don't select MPH for it to read that. There are 3 options, engine speed = RPM's with a white led color, I cant remember the middle options, but when selected it will make the led ring read RPM in sport mode, MPH in mid mode, and efficiency in green mode, the last selection is mode selection ie red=sport, yellow = mid and green = green mode.
Hey that's neat you did some photos as well!
I put together a little video of the lights running through all the colors. They were long exposure still shots blended together to simulate the disco mode.
