F55/F56 2014 Must have add ons
2014 Must have add ons
I will order a 2014 Mini hardtop for my lady and we intend to keep the car as a fun toy from 3-5 years.
So Far we are:
S / Auto w/ paddles
Cooperworks steeringwheel
cloth seats
Pepper White/gray interior
17 inch wheels
adjustable suspension
Armrest
I am concerned about re-sale, which extras are paramount
to ensure a marketable Mini ?

when i ordered my 2012 cms all4, i passed on the factory alarm, figuring an aftermarket alarm would be cheaper/better
they may or may not be better, i don't know because i was not able to find anyone willing to install one in a mini!
get the factory alarm if you want an alarm system
i would carefully go back into the configurator and look at every option, as many/most are either not possible to retrofit or if possible are very expensive to retrofit

For resale i would think cruise control would be nice.
The one option i miss on my second MINI that i had on my first was the Comfort Access package.
First, you have a manual vs. an auto (paddle shifter likely preferred with the auto). Then there are so many options available that I would think a fully loaded or nearly fully loaded MCS would have the potential best resale value. Just look at the various configurations posted here for the new F-56. Same most applies to people looking at a used F56. It's about match the buyer's needs to what is out there. JMO.
When it comes to resale there's somebody out there for every car that's for sale. Every buyer of a used car is different. Some want the car loaded and others are looking for the least expensive transportation for the dollar. My suggestion would be to order the car the way you want it and worry about selling it when that time comes.

I'm about to buy my first mini. The MCS we have reserved (it was already on its way to the dealer, so I didn't get to configure it) is fully loaded except for paddle shifters, the HUD and rear view camera.
The NHTSA is mandating rear view cameras by 2018 (http://www.nhtsa.gov/About+NHTSA/Pre...ity+Technology). I'm worried that not having a rear view camera, when even the lowest end of the market has them, will dramatically hurt resale value in 5 or so years.
Is anyone else worried about that?

I'm leasing my MINI so I'm not worried about not having the rear camera after 2018. I definitely did not want to spend $1000. for the camera when there is SO much visibility (sides and rear) with my MINI. I do have the rear Park Assist, but even that isn't really necessary. I mean, this is a SMALL car. With a ton of great visibility. I can see, though, we those without the camera might be concerned down the road, resale wise.

Wait, wait, wait... WHAT?! You can't get cruise (on the F56) unless you get the paddle steering wheel?! Please tell me that is not accurate. I ... honestly... MINI's nickel and dime-ing is about to be the last straw. I'm about to reconsider the whole idea.
ETA: never mind. Mini's website says that actually comes standard. But I'm not wrong about the nickel and dime-ing!

Ha, yeah I was going for 12K, but ended up doing 15K since my previous Cooper trade-in paid for the entire pre-paid lease and I had cash left over (thanks to the economy and higher demand for used cars!). Glad I did as I just passed 35K. Three months to go, so I'll be under.
If you're ordering, consider the storage package. You get storage netting on the pass side cockpit, 12v outlet in the boot, and the flat load floor with hinged lid. (things that came standard on my Coupe)
Good luck!

Yes!! What he said!! I leave the walnut sized key fob in the storage tray in front of the cup holders. That way I don't have to dig it out of my pocket when I'm getting out of the car. The ignition slot is gone now so you have to put the fob somewhere!!

also, unless there was a mistake on mine, i have the pass. side netting and i did NOT get the storage package.
Never understood ordering a car for resale... Buy what you want and have fun. Seriously, why worry about what someone else might or might not want in the future? Here you go... order the fusion powered, no exhaust warp capable Mini but with no butt warming seats as I hear they might or might not be fashionable in the future........
