Driver restraint system malfunction
Driver restraint system malfunction
Hey guy!
I moved my seat possibly all the way back, to check on stuff and clean. Then I heard car make a beep meaning there is something on the dash. It was that airbag symbol. I say a long white connector under the sear which had a black latch. The latch moved a bit I guess and was between locked position and unlocked. I pushed on it and latch fully closed. Didn't seem to help. I tried turning on the car, turning it off. Drove few miles, still the same. I opened latch of that connector looked at it, it seems good and made sure put it back properly. Still same thing.
So the question is: Once the cable is plugged in and connection is made, does the system acknowledge it and turn off the warning light?
OR
Even though the cable is connected, the code needs to be reset?

While the connector was most likely loose all along, moving the seat aft disconnected it. When you started the car, the error code was set. An OBDII scanner with the proper authority may be able to reset it, else it will have to be reset by the dealership or other repair facility. I learned the hard way with my first MINI. It cost about $80 several years ago.

When was cleaning after moving the seat and just heard the beep. I looked under the seat the special lever that goes over the yellow connector was not exactly in locked position, but a bit before that spot. I put it back and it clicked, but the light didn't go away. I removed the connector, checked all around it, the wiring, pins, cable, all are clean and nice. I plugged the connector back in. So looks like once the light come on, I would need that OBD2 scanner to clear it. At least it is good to know, as I don't want to mess with wires to ruin something. Thanks! I made an appointment with the dealer about a "seat belt retractor" for a recall and will mention the light too. Oh and I hope dealer will happily update my car's ECU, but I heard that customer has to report an issue, then dealer would flash the computer.
