I had a 2006 mini cooper s, manual transmission, LSD. Sort of the king of the style and function. Mini ditched the expensive stuff on it after it halo'd and caught on fire with the public. 2007 saw dumbed down body parts like the hood, lights, the front side panel, rear lights, the exhaust back in 2007 which turned brown in a year vs 138,000 mile car which had shining stainless underneath and chrome visible. (anti-lag popping and crackling exhaust).

It lasted 138,000 miles and i sold it. I have BRZ limited manual transmission now, 2017.

The BRZ was sort of its successor. It had no turbo, the old one was insta-super charger response, and so the NA boxer engine, plus ultra light car, was sort of the concept behind going from 1st gen Mini to BRZ. A lot of people did this due to the 2007 and years after designed like crap. I know now they use 4 cylinder BMW engines with turbos. It probably is pretty decent. The price is getting out of hand for a car that has only about $2000 dollars worth of tech more in it. But it still looks the best aside from the MX-5 RF 2019 or the car I have already, the limited BRZ 2017+.

I see a lot of people talk about their cars on here that have codes being thrown and issues that are complicated at first to solve. I dont see a lot of major expensive repairs though. That was my experience: some issues, but never big issues. I rushed to be last person to order a 2006 before it became turd-like.

I test drove a Veloster N yesterday. I have a deposit on that car. It is kind of too heavy for me. It beats the *** out of the performance of the Mini JCW, but that sort of is inconsequential as the Veloster N's interior looks like ***. I mean it is ok for a rental car for 20 year olds who would track sand in it and spill craft beer in the back. But it looks like it would be impossible to clean like my old synthetic Mini Cooper S seats. at 138000 miles, at 11 year marker, my car had Zero scent. It smelled like the air inside it after 11 years. I detailed it by hand 2-4x a month for 11 years, aside from snow storm weeks. No other car can come close to that ability to maintain the Paint and the Interior like that mini. That seemed to remain constant. I was in a new one this week. That was quite a similar experience. I think the new synthetic seats feel less thick of a vinyl, maybe they will stretch a tad. Maybe just newer technology. The paint on the bottom of a car that drove through Newark, Manhattan, and Long island constantly was still fresh, green, no rust, nothing. It was garaged about 40 days of its entire 11 years. I drove it in snow and through chemical factory places without roads, but Just a few bolts had rust on them, non essential bolts. I know for a fact that my subaru/toyota is not ever going to see that level of keepin-it-clean and no rust. I have a faint smell inside the 21,700 mile very beautiful BRZ limited. I never brought food in it, i never allow people to even bring open water bottles in it. I have a change of shoes for bad weather. I have a spare set of floor mats for going out. How the heck is their a tiny unclean scent in it? It is japanese/asian/etc. They just dont give a crap about stuff like that like germans/english do. Also, the paint got etched by bird crap? i think actually it was etched by tree sap. not huge etching, but it is visible and not as shiny after waxing. 11 year mini was brilliant paint sitting in sun and snow of NY.

I am afraid that i will sell this nice car and buy a CEL code car. I dont want to rain on your parade if you have a Mini and they suck, there are many reasons to own one, and I'm one of the originals on here who knows their hidden value.

is a 2019 or 2020 better than several years ago? Is it still a motor mount squishing CEL code that isn't true nuisance? I am disenchanted with most cars now, and sort of want a Mini again before they become castrated in 2021. I already cant order manual transmission in some models for 2020. It seems they have this bad idea of selling leases on automatic puff cars, and making their money on $26,000 used car sales, vs ala carte ordering and 10+ year owners.

Any thoughts?
Only two I would buy is a Hardtop 2 door S (or jcw), and the Clubman all4 S.

 

Well my 2019 JCW hasn't thrown a code or even squished a motor-mount yet. So go ahead and pony-up the dough and buy yourself a new one. Or else you could just complain the internet. Either works...I suppose.

Uh yeah...I had a Gen2 Cooper S with 90,000 plus miles and a Stage 2 ECU tune with all the mods and maintenance done by my own hands, in my garage, and have since upgraded to a newer model, but I obviously know nothing about the brand... tee hee. Keep tryin'

I too have a 2019 JCW. I think the quality is way better than previous generations, but I wont tell you that now. I will reply in three years time.

They were told they can't order them in NY, but the outcry has made Mini change their plans, and Monday morning this info will be released.

I saw 2020 mini cooper s convertible on the lot sold today. It looks really nice in red with stripes.

 

I've only had my 2019 2 Door Cooper S for a month now. But this seems like one very well made and thoughtfully designed technically speaking car. Very impressed with it so far. Been no issues with it that I observe, just works, every time I drive it.

Prior two cars were Acura RSX and Integra, with several Toyotas before that. Great cars, if they still made them, I might have bought one now.

However, now that I've got the S it feels and drives like a more sophisticated driving machine....at least to me.

The latest generation B-series engine has a lot of pro's and con's in comparison against the previous motors. It's a beefier close-deck design. Should be able to hold whatever you want to put into this little bitty thing. All you gotta do is upgrade the pistons and the rods, then you have yourself a solid 4-banger. Beware of the temperature and keep all your cooling system components in top shape, cooling around the close-deck block is a big trade off compared to the previous open-deck water jacket design.
