F56 find the rattles!
The quality improvement is larger than from the R53 to the R56.
Something is wrong with the rear shocks on my MCS. Quiet with DDC in sport otherwise they rattle. There was a recall for this on UK cars. think it is the lower bushings. Anyone else have that sound when going over bumps?
I have the exact same issue. The dealerships seem to be aware, but i was told they are waiting for an official recall / fix from BMW. Out of curiosity, how many kilometers are you at ?
I have a light/high pitched sort of hollow sounding noise as I go over bumps at lower speeds. On the highway my car feels super solid but at lower speeds I hear this dumb noise.
It's been there since the car was just about new and I'm approaching 4k miles now.

New to this forum.....my June 2014 registered MCS has this rear knock too, pretty much since the summer and it's now covered 5000miles. I've had EVERYTHING out of the boot, driven with the seats down (incase it was the seat catches), checked tyres, wheels, exhaust/heatsheilds etc. I'm CONVINCED its shocks/antiroll bar linkage issues....on the rear drivers side.
The dealer cannot rectify the fault apparently (they must be deaf) but are now waiting delivery of a 'tool' to access something within the suspension after consultation with BMW. They are very vague with me. I do not have the upgraded suspension.
Does anyone have any more details of this recall some of you have mentioned? I'm in the UK. I'm not willing to accept that this is normal MINI behaviour although I'm new to the marque, this clunking should not happen. Urban driving is embarrassing.

^^ yes!!!
That's what mine is doing!
I'm hesitant to drop it off and get the old "I can't hear it" or "that's normal" so I'm waiting until spring when the software update for the rev matching of second gear should be released. I don't want to wait til 10k miles since I don't rack up miles like I used to!

Exactly! With the below zero temps in Upstate NY this rattle has appeared and is driving me nuts. Has anyone figured it out?
An update from me (quote #58)....... my dealer found my rear shocks were leaking. I have standard suspension. So a new set are on order from Germany but my dealer can't give me a timeframe at the moment as they have to be shipped rather than flown, because they're gas filled. I'm in the UK.
I'm taking mine in Thursday to have them investigate all the noise coming from the rear suspension. I will be taking EVERYTHING out of the car so they can't try telling me that it's something in the glovebox.
Really hope they can fix it!!!

They're keeping it a little while longer. The tech said he'd ask his boss about it and contact Mini. Not sure why this couldn't be done before I made a trip there.
Mine even rattles in sport mode. It is very cold here and temperature makes a difference. I had my car interior apart. Now it is back together and the noise is very slightly better but enough for my son to ask about that noise.....
^^ Gregory, please let me know what interior pieces you adjusted to get the improvement.
As for mine, looks like I'll be going to pick it back up again today.
here is the response i got:
"(the tech) and our BMW foreman test drove your vehicle and also drove multiple other F56s. They verified that the noise is present in those as well as yours. Mini will not authorize a repair for a concern that is inherent to the vehicle."
what a bunch of bull. There is a quality issue with regard to some part(s) or assembly.
I disagree that this is a normal, acceptable noise for any NEW car to make. If the same problem was addressed for early build cars with DDC, then there is no reason why they should not try to fix it for the rest of us.
with that said, I will be happy to have my F56 back because this Paceman S loaner is a gutless turd.

Greg. I had my whole interior back gutted. Nothing but bare metal an wires! Now I put the panels back there is a very slight improvement because of the insulation and plastic and back seats etc...
ah ok. so it's definitely not something in the interior.
It seems like everyone agrees it's something in the rear though.
Shocks?
Sway bars?
something else? (i remember when i had my VW Golf there were some people whose fuel lines would hit off the bottom of the car and make noise)
Guess I just need to get under there myself and start wiggling things to see what gives.

Do you have a link to this UK recall?
I have the car back in my possession. I spoke with the shop foreman or something. I explained how I can't understand how this is "normal" when service bulletins are being issued for similar issues, my wife's car does not do it, and they cannot tell me the actual cause of this noise.
Sorry but the "suspension actuating" should not make a clunking/rattling sound. Something is loose or not properly fitting.
I have had progress ...... after my initial visit with the "can't replicate the fault" blurb, BMW advised my dealer to order in Chassis Ears to help pinpoint any fault. They did this and on the second visit, I took the service manager out and highlighted the issue to him (which he heard/agreed was coming from the rear drivers side). The chassis ears did highlight a problem with the rear shocks
So, new shocks ordered from Germany .... timeframe for delivery wasn't guaranteed as they have to be shipped rather than flown due to explosion risk as they're gas filled. Any how they arrived at the dealer after about 10 days and they're now ready to go on the car...booked in for next week.
Hopefully that's the end of the matter
My F56 had the standard suspension.
Hope this helps you!

I asked about the service bulletin for the early DDC cars and was told it was the bump stops?

I have elevated this "normal" suspension noise issue to one of the higher ups at Mini/BMW using contact information I found during the EPA delay issue. This man was a huge help back then, making sure we were taken care of and getting my wife set up with a loaner car then.
He has already replied and says he will be looking into the matter. I'll keep everyone updated as I learn more.
