Dinan Elite vs tune from JCW tuning kit

I currently have a dinan elite tune in my garage for my clubby S awaiting to be installed. I just saw that ECS has a really good price on the JCW tuning kit with the exhaust. The remap included in the kit increases HP by about 15. What would happen if I get the JCW kit and then install the Dinan elite? Would the power increase I get from the Elite be on top of the 15 from the JCW kit, or would it be what the ELite would normally give, minus 15 that was already increased from the kit?

The elite is on top of the gains you get from the tune but you need the elite for JCW which is a different model number than for the standard S.

The tuning kit is a nice improvement and the exhaust is an extra bonus. It’s reliable, because it’s oem and comes with a 2 year warranty. The elite is great, but may throw codes even if they match your warranty. I imagine it’s safe to run, I’d do it.

I have the JCW tuning kit on my exhaust. Overall I think it was worth the investment and I’ll get some returns when I sell the car.

Check kit this article. Not apples to apples per se, but the tuning kit has more performance than is advertised. http://www.motoringfun.com/2015/11/0...cw-tuning-kit/

There are quite a few on YouTube. It sounds a little different on the clubman, maybe from the sound insulation or distance from the pipes being a longer car. In normal driving mode and the shifter pushed over its a nice growl. It can get a little droany with the flaps open off the line or traffic (Not in a good way). At Mid/higher revs it’s got a very nice sound from the cabin. Pops are much louder in sport/sport, and the braaaap on the up shift is a really nice noise, especially shifting in manj. If you downshift in manual, the pops are borderline offensive to some (I like it). The experience has to be totally different in a manual car. Overall I like the reliable performance bump and all the sound adjustability. I don’t love that I need to be in sport to really let the sound out, sometimes the DDC is a little harsh, so I wish that was a separate control. The dealer install price is a little heavy at 5-7 hours of labor,

hmmmmm now you got me thinking. I have an auto but really only drive in sport mode/ sport shift and sometimes take over the gear changes (wish I had paddles). maybe i'll sell the elite and pick up the tuning kit. I still have quite a bit of time left on my CPO warranty and wouldn't want any issues if something were to pop up with the dinan.

Did you notice the bump in power?

Yeah for sure. It felt a lot freer to rev. Like you took a couple of bodies out of the trunk. After a while that becomes your baseline and you'll probably still want a little extra umph. The elite and tuning kit are really different animals and price points. I don't know if the CPO warranty is matched by Dinan or just the original mfg. warranty but it probably gets a few more HP. I was mulling over the same decision. When I found out the Dinan exhaust didn't work on the all4, I just stuck with the OEM plus option. I haul kids around, I'm not into risking any CELs so I can pound my chest when I beat someone to the next stop sign, and my car will never see a dyno.

You can set up Sport mode to only control either the engine or the DDC I'm almost positive

I need BimmerCode and a Carly tool I guess? That may be my next purchase but I feel like I’ll end up slipping into advanced mode. I really am dying to program my HUD to show the rpm too, which I saw is possible. If I have to pick, I guess it would be engine but it’s nice to have the option to pick both.

Yeah, you can do this. Just go to the options in the menu. No need for any special software. (This is true for our 2019 Clubman, in any event.)

I have the Dinan elite on my 2017 Clubman S All4 and I love how it's opened up an engine that felt... lacking on the stock model (even in Sport mode). I have had the unit throw engine codes requiring dealer visits. The first visit required them to replace the unit (under warranty). The second visit, while it turned out that the engine code was for the fuel tank pressure release valve, also showed that the Dinan unit was throwing a code. After consultation, they replaced the unit again with what I was told was a new flash/programming. It wasn't quite the same (really fun) kick in the pants of the first two units when you are in sport and applying some spirited throttle, but the smoother response and the power gains is still very enjoyable. I'm hoping this unit hangs around for a while, because I want to love it.
